At retirement I had a staff of 22 women and one man.  He was in the mid-range pay scale from my firm because about half of the women produced more profits for the firm than he did.  Most business are biased that way.  Equal pay for equal production of profit.

I agree very much with your column.  What you pointed out is similar to the women tennis players at Wimbledon wanting to be paid the same as the men players.  There was one important difference, however, in that the men players at Wimbledon play the best three out of five sets in each of their matches while the women only play the best two out of three sets in their matches.  Arthur Ashe, who was black and was a crusader for equality, once mentioned this key discrepancy at Wimbledon, and he seemed to favor higher pay for the men players.  The Wimbledon officials in 2007 finally gave in to political correctness and decided to award equal pay to the men and women players in all rounds of their tournament.
