How sad to defend Mr. Robertson. He's clearly given some thought to the matter and his statement doubtless expresses his opinion...an opinion which showed a profound ignorance of history and an insensitivity to the plight of both enslaved peoples and catastrophy victims. The audience of a nut-job like Robertson should fill a Volkswagon - it speaks poorly of our country that millions tune into him.

Clay - laughable to claim that Mr. Robertson's comment could go over anyone's head. He spoke clearly and stupidly. Anyone with a brain cell can see he's unintelligent and dangerous.

Pat Robertson "misspoke" isn't that the term politicians use when they goof? On the other hand how slow to cover the good Robertson and his teams perform; Always quick to be there in a disaster with food, medics, and in the case of Haiti, water purification contianers were included.
I volunteer for another Christian group and help in disasters we are not recognized and that is fine, we go because we are called to help our fellow man. The joy to serve and help those who have experienced disaster is my privaledge.
We do have to wonder at the corruption in higher echalons. I hope that out of this disaster will come good and hope for Haitians.

Jane,

Jerry Smith sent me your column. I know precious little about Haiti and feel terrible for these folks.
As is usually the case........ there is a mixture of opinion as to just what the cause is of the continuing
Haitian problem.
Pat Robertson tends to shoot from the lip on more than a few things. I do think he is sincere however.
I'm not a Robertson supporter but I am curious about this supposed "Pact with the Devil".
You wonder why this country seems to be perpetually unable to improve itself.
Opinion?

Jane,

A very good column with it being educational about Haiti, and I would like to add that Pat Robertson was correct about stating that Haiti was a cursed country and made a pact with the devil many years ago. I grimaced, however, when I read his comments because I knew that the secular left and the dominant media would ridicule them because they don't even believe that the devil exists. Furthermore,I knew as well what Robertson said would go over the heads of many Christian church goers in this country because they haven’t really been taught very much about spiritual warfare.

I did think that it was fitting that George W. Bush was down in Haiti with the Clintons while perhaps the country was being saved with Scott Brown’s incredible victory in Massachusetts, as Bush had absolutely nothing to do with the miracle that happened in Massachusetts.

Jane,

Have you read Walter Williams column (Haiti)? How do you purpose to direct this focused attention? At what point do you realize that throwing money at problems and see it fail and then conclude you did not throw enough money isn't the answer. The answer I think is acknowledging as Williams does in his column, define the real problem? In Haiti that is the tough challenge. How far does the US go in directing the culture, corruption, beliefs, and the government of such a country? It presents moral, legal, and Haiti's sovereignty questions. As you say the corruption and "what happened to the money" is real. How intertwined does America get in helping Haiti? I understand your column and support true Christian ministry in Haiti. It does lie with the Haitian people ultimately. Do you really think the coalition Government is a good one?

Thank you for your column and your thoughts. I do appreciate your compassion for the Haitian people.
