“D-Day” for Republicans

“D-Day” is a military term used to denote the beginning of a combat mission.

There is a new D-Day coming.  Let’s call it “Decision Day for the United States.  It falls on December 11.  That is the day the GOP must decide if it will accept the mandate it was given by the American people to lead or if it will run up the white flag of surrender to an unpopular but stubborn president.

If you have been paying attention, then you know that this is the day the government runs out of money.  The timing is awful, two weeks before Christmas when most people are busy with the holidays and have checked out politically.

This timing is no accident.  The price of liberty really is eternal vigilance.  There can be no liberty without the ability to control a fair portion of what we earn which is slowly slipping away with each passing tax increase.  And don’t kid yourself, if we don’t get the nation’s spending under control, more hefty tax increases are coming.  It’s just a matter of time. Three Land Mines for Republicans

Now that Republicans have won the election war, the real work begins:  the cleanup.  As with any war, this is the tedious part.  In these next two years there are no more glorious battles to be won, just a lot of grunt work.  As with any war, dealing with the aftermath is difficult.  It requires  hard work, focus, commitment and, make no mistake, it is dangerous.

One of the biggest obstacles is land mines.  These are not real land mines that can physically kill you but if the GOP doesn’t disarm them, they can kill the party’s chance for a victory in 2016.

The three biggest land mines standing between Republicans and victory in 2016 are:

The bad news? GOP’s same Spineless Leaders

So you think the fact that Republicans now control both houses of Congress there will be a rollback of Obama’s unpopular policies?  Guess again.

If you hit the snooze button for another two years, there will be a lot of whining and gnashing of teeth, but nothing important will get done.  Obamacare will still be the law of the land.  We will still be spending more than we take in and our immigration laws will still be a joke.

But wait a minute.  Isn’t this why the electorate gave the Republicans control of Congress?  What about the millions that were spent on the ads Repubican candidates were running touting these very things?  Aren’t these the very issues this election was supposed to be all about? Dumbest Voting Idea Ever

I received an email from a well-meaning friend urging me to sign a petition on MoveOn.org’s website which he felt would encourage more people to vote and improve our government.

Call me suspicious. Anything provided by MoveOn is designed to do one thing: elect more radical left-leaning candidates to lead us into a socialist utopia where the enlightened elite will live like kings and lead the rest of us around like trained monkeys. Why I left the Democratic Party

Recently, I received an email from a former television colleague.  I’ll call him Jack (not his real name).  Jack lamented the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and invited me to read and post on his blog.  It had been years since we’ve had any direct contact, but I have great respect for this man.  Therefore, I went to Jack’s blog and began reading.  It sickened me, so much so that I was, for one of the few times in my life, speechless.

It was one of the worst biased political rants I have ever seen.

It began with a personal story.  As a young photographer, Jack covered a race riot in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he discovered that the local police chief had sent officers in blackface to stir up the rioters so he could crack down on them.  After that, the “chief” ran for Congress as a Republican and won.

I don’t doubt Jack’s veracity.  However, it was as if time has stood still for him.  Therefore, he believes all Republicans (and tea party members and other conservative-leaning organizations like the Heritage Foundation) to be racist. Continue reading “Why I left the Democratic Party”

A Billion Reasons to Stop Illegal Immigration Now

President Obama has requested $3.7 billion dollars to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants crossing our borders, many of them minors.  It is no secret that this administration has, in fact, put out the welcome mat by refusing to enforce many of our immigration laws and ignoring others.

The president has all the authority he needs to send these people home immediately.  The William Wilberforce Act, which Obama has used as an excuse to allow this crisis to continue, has a provision that allows him to limit its application in “exceptional circumstances.”  If this isn’t an exceptional circumstance, I would hate to see one. Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing

We have a crisis on our souther border.  President Obama’s solution is to ask Congress for $3.8 billion dollars to process and care for these children who are illegally crossing into our country at an unprecedented rate.  This, of course, would only be a down payment because, if these children aren’t immediately returned to their home country, thousands more will be on their way.

Meanwhile, Obama is flying the children, many of whom are sick and diseased, around the country and dumping them in selected communities without so much as a warning to local officials.

This must stop, not only for the good of the country, but for the welfare of these children!  Obama’s policy and lack of enforcement are causing poor Central American parents to put their children into the care of smugglers in hopes of using them as anchors into the United States.  Sadly, many of these young people are mistreated and raped along the way!   Continue reading “Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing”

Feeding Millionnaires while Taxpayers Shiver

Some of the Democrats’ leading bleeding-heart liberals found common ground this past week with the biggest corporate welfare-loving Republicans in a most unlikely source, the farm bill, which is now headed to President Obama.

Mostly Republicans in the House and mostly Democrats in the Senate came together with congressional leaders in a big Kumbaya moment to pass a bill that is an affront to every citizen who struggles to pay his or her taxes.

Most of us tune out when we hear the word “farm.”  In a nation that long ago moved away from an agrarian society, the closest we get to the soil these days is when we mow the lawn or wash a the few drops of dirt from the produce we bring home from the market.

However, our representatives in Washington just spent more on the farm bill than was spent on the much maligned Obama stimulus, $956.4 billion over 10 years to be exact.  And this farm bill is every bit as wasteful as the aforementioned boondoggle. Paul Ryan’s Tax on Travelers

The assertion by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan and his Senate counterpart, Patty Murray, that their budget compromise does not raise taxes is tantamount to Barack Obama’s pledge, “If you like your (insurance) plan, you can keep it.”

All of the above knew their statements to be bald-faced lies right from the get-go!

The difference is it took most people more than two years to figure out Obama’s charade, while most airline passengers already know the Ryan-Murray line won’t fly. Continue reading “Paul Ryan’s Tax on Travelers”
