Christians are Slackers

Christians are political slackers.  We have failed to defend the values upon which this country was founded.  We have failed to defend the Constitution and we have failed to defend our military men and women who have pledged to defend this country with their very lives if necessary.

As we approach the birthday of our nation, most get all teary-eyed when the flag is raised and the “Star-Spangled Banner” is played.  Unfortunately this yearly display is rarely followed by the actions necessary to keep this country “the land of the free” and “the home of the brave.”

It is a sad fact that only about half of all those who identify themselves as Christians are registered to vote.  On election day, only about half of those who are registered show up at the polls.

When we do vote, we are as likely as any other group to be swayed by a pretty face or a cleaver speech.  Few of us bother examining a candidate’s stand on the issues and the political platform on which he or she runs.  Fewer still measure that stand against our plumb line, the Word of God.
Many of our forefathers bled and died to give us a country which has freedoms unknown in many parts of the word.   Unfortunately, most of us can’t be bothered to walk a few blocks (or drive in air conditioned comfort) to a polling place or drop a ballot in the mailbox outside our door.    How shameful!

If we live according to God’s word, we are to be salt and light in the world.  In a republic form of government that means – at the very least –  being an active, informed, registered voter.

That is why Christian Coalition has designated this Sunday, July 4, as “Citizenship Sunday.”  In addition to singing “God Bless America,” this is a perfect time to address our responsibility as citizens and conduct a voter registration drive.

Christian Coalition has a complete list of do’s and don’ts on its website as well as links to registration info for each state.
While it may be too late to obtain a stack of voter registration forms, in most states voters can print one out on-line and stick it in the mail.  It’s a simple matter to set up a table with a computer and print them out one by one.  Then, give out pre-addressed, stamped envelopes.

One thing that churches can and should do is educate their members on pending legislation and policy changes.   The liberal line, “You can’t legislate morality,” is false.  It is meant to scare you out.   There is no such thing as a value-free law or a value-free piece of legislation.  Every law is based on someone’s set of values.

We now have laws protecting the wholesale slaughter of children in the womb, homosexual behavior and pornography.  We have allowed our public school clinics to hand out condoms and birth control devices to our children, even take our children for abortions without our knowledge or consent.   This has happened because we don’t vote and we don’t take part in the political process.

This Sunday, on the birthday of our nation, most churches will recognize our veterans and those on active duty in the military.  That is as far as it goes.  Most have not lifted a finger to protect the 1993 law preventing open homosexuality in the military (mislabeled “Don’t Ask, Don’t tell”).  Military life is hard enough without having the guy in the next bunk hit on you.

The Obama Administration announced plans to abolish this law but, don’t forget, Congress makes the laws that govern the military and you elect the members of Congress.  Your member of the House of Representatives and your two senators need to hear from you now.

Active duty miliary personnel are not permitted to lobby Congress.  That’s our job.  It’s the very least that we can do for our men and women in uniform.   Phone calls, letters and e-mails are urgently needed.  Remember, you silence is a permission slip.

Also, most of us will sit idly by while the Senate approves the unqualified, radical gay activist Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.  This nomination can and should be stopped.  When senators feel the heat, they see the light.

In a republic such as ours, the people who work the hardest are going to have laws that reflect their values.  It’s as simple as that.

This Sunday is a perfect time to repent and begin living out your faith.

  1. It has long bothered me that so many people in the Christian community seem to have a big aversion to developing any significant talents or making much money. It is as though they have interpreted Bible language about being humble in the eyes of God to mean that they should not have much beyond necessities and should not have any special abilities or talents.

A highly talented and trained Christian community could make a difference when it comes to giving homosexuals, leftists and liberals serious opposition when and where it is most needed.

In 1993, the mainstream media called Bible believing Christians “largely poor, illiterate, and easy to command”. The Christian community should have said “Enough’s enough”.

  2. Jane .. My sentiments EXACTLY! Thank you for writing what I’ve been telling my friends and assocites for awhile now and you said it succinctly. I appreciate it and I will send a link to your column to some people. We need to wake some people up and get them active, rather than passive. God did not make us passive, he gave us a powerful spirit, not to be bullied and pushed around by the enemy. So again, thank you! Respectfully ..Tim Kemp, Farmington Hills, MI

  3. Dear Ms. Chastain,

I enjoyed your column on Christians being slackers in the political process, however as one of those slackers I wish to offer my own slice of personal philosophy.

Yes, we need to elect Godly people into positions of power, but in order for that to happen there needs to be a repentance within the American people whereby we became a nation of Godly people first.

Our solutions to the problems we now face will never be achieved politically. Sarah Palin will not save us. Scott Brown will not save is. McGlowan will destroy us. In short, political saviors will continue to disappoint us.

And since I do not see a true turning to God until Christ restores His form of Government on Earth, I do not see there being a solution to the crisis this country is experiencing. America is through. It is a done deal. All I can do, and in fact all I am doing, is praying daily that Christ will return soon. I pray that God’s plan for man will unfold quickly. I pray for the protection of Israel. I pray that God will protect those of us who are His

Of course, I will vote with my conscience. I will speak out where I can, but I have to confess to realizing that no matter who we elect, I think the writing is on the wall. There is no turning back what’s been done to this nation. We have the leaders we deserve and wanted. We deserve what we are getting.

    God be with us all.

  4. Dear Mrs. Chastain,
Everything you said is true about the Christians but today’s are not so different from other times really. The bible calls them sheep and we know sheep easily succumb to the slaughter. Yes, it is a major problem agreed. Christians have been made to believe they shouldn’t engage themselves in the political arena and most have bought into this lie. The real problem is the lack of truly called men of God (shepherds) to challenge these devils in Washington. We must have men like David that was so full of faith in God as a young boy he willingly protected his sheep from bears and wolves and single-handedly not depending on others but totally reliant on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for victory. He was of the same spirit the three Hebrew children when they told the king we don’t know whether God will deliver us from the fiery furnace of not but whether he does or not we will not bow down to your idol or like Daniel in the lion’s den. In other words, they were sold out to God and His righteousness and come hell or high water they wouldn’t budge or give in to anything contrary to God’s righteousness. The so-called shepherds today are but hirelings and this is obvious with what we are witnessing. A hireling according to the bible’s definition is John 10:12-13 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. Isn’t is obvious this is what we are witnessing from the leadership of the churches today? Jesus involved himself in the politics of his day on monetary matters as well as other things. Matthew 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves. Further study of this event reveals some unknowns to most. These businessmen with the approval of the political and religious establishment of that day were deceiving the common folk if you will into exchanging their money for worthless money hence the term moneychangers. Do we not see this exact same thing happening in America today in its various forms and being propagated by politicians in Washington? Remember this scripture is given us for an example to follow. Very seldom is the same action taken recorded repeatedly except for some in the gospels. He may have very well done this in other places as well. The scripture says he did so many things there was not room to write it all down. Common sense tells me it was unnecessary to record every instance where the same thing was accomplished. Can you imagine reading over and over everything Jesus did. What would be the purpose? Again, these examples provide the roadmap for the Christian to follow. Please note the only time recorded in the bible where Jesus literally got physical with evil men and seducers to the point of taking a whip to them is this particular instance. This is the spirit that must reside in spiritual leadership for our day and unless it does we are doomed, period because as I said this thing going on in America has progressed far beyond the norm into the spiritual realm. Our president and those around him are possessed of a devil period. I know this is hard to believe because 1 out of million have dealt with this kind of thing but it is nonetheless the truth. You know them by their fruit! It is a battle for the soul of man. Satan knows the clock is running out on him and the time of the Gentiles is almost fulfilled meaning God is turning back to Jew and the church raptured.

Should Christians Engage Themselves in Politics

    David L Lamon

The Apostles and Christians were knee deep in involvement of the political climate of their day and were killed because of their biblical stands against men of corrupt minds but guess what; a survey of all they did gives us the right to know the truth that will unto salvation for all that adhere to it . These men of corrupt minds were the same as we see today in America constantly changing the political climate of their day for their own gain, which always lead to moral decay. Paul challenged both the political and religious establishment of their day on issues and in this particular text of Acts 15 below about circumcision. In Acts chapters 25 and 26 we find the apostle Paul challenging the King himself. If a king is not a politician what is he? He also challenged them concerning immoral sex acts such as homosexuality (Romans 1) and this included the political viewpoints of the leaders of these countries. Today in America this same issue is being fought by the opposing political forces that be. The Democrats are pushing for same sex marriage and the right to kill innocent babies and the Republicans are against this and allowing homosexuals the right to adopt children. For example: Acts 15:2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. The apostle didn’t mince words with these leaders as the text above suggest. In other words, unlike many of us Christians today they put faith on their legs and took it to them. The frustration of these political and spiritual leaders (notice the text says rulers) grew so bad they accused Paul of Acts 17:6 and when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also. This is but one example of the role of the Christian in society today to challenge the political establishment when they go astray of righteous living as given by God’s word. The question that begs an answer is why should Christians engage themselves in the politics of the day? The answer to a good conscience is this we are fighting against Ephesians 6:12 for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places and this includes men that rule over the lives of people. It was men Jesus and the apostles fought against that were under the influence of the imps of Satan. Is it not true the issue of homosexuality being challenged by the church is now being fought in the political landscape which includes the courts? If Christians were not opposed to this abomination there would be no problem. Like it or not as long as a person/persons stand against immorality a political solution will inevitably follow. The answer to a good conscience is for all Christians to reach the unity of the spirit as we are admonished to do on these immoral issues and tear down the strongholds of these rulers of darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. If we do this then the battle becomes the Lords. Thus saith the LORD unto you, be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Of course the main prerequisite is for Christians is to first examine themselves to see if they are of the faith. Second, do all of the above as laid out in Ephesians the sixth chapter and throw in 2nd Chronicles 7:14 for good measure and we will have assured victory. So as you can see from the above this idea that Christians should not engage themselves in politics is pure hogwash. Revelation 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment, that thou may be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. But I would have you to know O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Prayer from a sincere repentant heart will produce fruit. We are to as the scripture admonishes us to James 5:16 confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much and Romans 8:31 what shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? We must avoid; Matthew 15:7-19 you hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, this people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand; It is not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defiles a man. Then came his disciples, and said unto him, do you know that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Hebrews 4:12 for the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Because as I have already pointed out the battle we are fighting is against the principalities and powers of the air or on high, which makes it spiritual makes it impossible to separate the spiritual from the political. They are inevitably intertwined and as the last book of the bible teaches us the spiritual (false prophet) and political will have such a negative effect on human beings with the anti-Christ and the false church leadership joining forces and it will only be by God’s intervention that it be righted. I for one do not want the Lord to look upon me and say Isaiah 63:5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. Even our first president George Washington knew better when he made the statement; “Do not let anyone claim to be a true American if they ever attempt to remove religion from politics.” Benjamin Franklin said, “Whoever will introduce into public affairs (both social and political) the principles of Christianity will change the face of the world.” This statement seems to contradict today’s version of separation and church doesn’t it?

  5. ACTUALLY. If one sees Christians as slackers then why not target the transcending, hovering real issue than blindly focusing on a periphereal grain of sand which will have no impact in the big picture?

“IT WILL BE A HISTORIC *COMPROMISE* TO GRANT TWO STATES IN PALESTINE – ONE FOR THE JEWS – AND ONE FOR THE ARABS” – A cigar chomping Churchill on the carving off of 80% of a tine land for the creation of a ficticious state called Jordan.

This post-W.W.II attrocity was and remains the greatest evil impacting the world today. It was a genocidal inspired act – with no other view possible. Carving off 80% here was no *COMPROMISE* – and it was and remains illegal – perpetrated under extreme duress when the Jews were totally helpless.

If christians remain silent as they have thus far for the corruption of the Balfour Declaration, there is nothing they can do elsewhere that will justify anything they say. The silence makes ‘all’ christians guilty – even an old lady with dementia who cannot anymore remember her middle name. The pollution is not with the climate. It is a test for Christians – even as Israel does not ask for such anymore. Yes Christians are slackers.

  6. Wow.
When I started reading your rant it seemed as if you weren’t going to become a religious terrorist.
    But you did become one.
You want the rest of us to live by the rules of your faith.
That dear girl is unAMERICAN. It makes you the same as the Islamic terrorists. You and those like you are nothing more than the American Taliban.

    Believe what you will.
Go to the church of your choice.
But dont for one minute think that the rest of us will ever let your kind create a theocracy in this country

  7. “Create a Theocracy”? “Religious Terrorist”?

Jane, your column seemed to me of simply ask Christians to follow the faith that they profess to follow.

“Your Kind”, as the ultra liberal Talis chooses to say, are the “Kind” that made this country the envy of the rest of the world.

  8. Jim Dean seemingly you didnt read her rant as you were to busy talking to your pretend friend.
“Your Kind” being you religious fanatics that want the rest of us to follow your version of the law.
Is your reading comprehension so bad that you didnt read that in her rant?
She directly asks the religious to vote for people who will makes laws following “your kinds” religious beliefs.
That makes you just another American Taliban member.
Be proud of what you are.

You dont know if Im liberal.Im for religious freedom. Not a religious theocracy.

  9. News flash for Talis.

The United States of America is a republic. This means that we elect people to represent us who have values similar to our own. Neither I nor Jane are going to encourage voting by liberal atheists who don’t represent our values, or even have any.

  10. Jane,

I once had a friend tell me that Christians weren’t called to get into politics. He was wrong, and it is partly because of Americans like him that things are hanging by a thread now in the United States. If the evil of Barack Obama and the evil of other liberals such as Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, and Nancy Pelosi are not overcome in the 2010 and 2012 elections, it would not be long afterwards that Christians in the United States would discover that they no longer had many freedoms they once had. The Holy Spirit is still helping to protect America at this time, but the churches in America better wake up or someday things will not be much better in the United States than they were in Nazi Germany or have been in other totalitarian countries

  11. Like I said you are cult members of the American Taliban.
Trying to impose your faith on the rest of us.
I hope Obama brings the troops home soon to fight the Christian terrorists right here in America.

  12. Really Jane you ought to actually study the constitution.
The writers were mostly Deists. They didnt want the government to be any one religion.
They wanted the people to be able to choose their religion without government interference.
    Get it?
    It is called choice.
And one other point to all you antichoice antifreedom Christians. No one is PRO ABORTION.
Only a psycho is PRO ABORTION.
You better put yourselves in the other persons shoes and see if you want as an example,Islam to make the laws that you have to follow.

  13. Your right, I know lots of christians, or those who call themselves christians not voting, I keep hearing ” someone else will take care of it”, I makes me sad to hear such nonsence, I vote, and many times I didn’t like either candidtaes so I wrote in names of people I know who I thought would be a better candidate although they weren’t running, lol, I even put myself down…Lynyrd Skynyrds “Freebird”, well bye & take care, God Bless.

  14. Jane,

“…your kind will never turn this country into a Theocracy”. It’s surprising how many people in this country will actually believe that drivel.
Keep up the great work Jane, I’m happy and thankful to be “your kind”.
