How to Secure the Border

How can we secure our border with Mexico?  The answer is simple:  Secure the border!

We don’t need amnesty or work verification or bingo or pink elephants or anything else to secure the border.   All we need is the will to do it.

The so-called “comprehensive” immigration reform bill now before Congress is an example of the oldest con game in Washington which goes on decade after decade.  Our representatives tell us,  “Give us what we want and then we promise we will give you what you want.  Trust us.”   Somehow, it never quite works out  for “we the people.”   Continue reading “How to Secure the Border”

Obama’s Fourth Scandal

Barack Obama is fighting for his political life, embroiled in three scandals: the criminal use of the IRS, using the Justice Department to spy on reporters and the cover-up of the attack in Benghazi.

There is a fourth scandal that is equally serious but is not being addressed because this cover-up involves both the administration and Congress, Democrats and Republicans.

Last week, the Pentagon released a report on the soaring number of sexual assaults in the military. These crimes have increased a whopping 129 percent since 2004. The confidential portion of this report indicates that some 26,000 members of our armed forces were sexual assaulted last year alone. However, only 3,347 of these assaults were reported. The reasons are as obvious as they are disturbing. Continue reading “Obama’s Fourth Scandal”

Twas the Night before Cliffmas

(With Apologies to Clement Clark Moore, Henry Livingston, Jr. or  Anonymous)

Twas the night before Cliffmas, when all through the House

Republicans were wondering if their leader was a man or a mouse;

The parameters for the budget talks had been set out with care,

In hopes that a compromise soon would be there.

The taxpayers were uneasy, not snug in their beds,

While visions of higher rates danced in their heads;

And mom with her checkbook and dad with the bills,

Had just settled down with a bottle of pills, Continue reading “Twas the Night before Cliffmas”

The “Injustice” Department

There was a time, when the United States of America was respected for its justice system.  No more!   In fact, things have deteriorated so much under the current administration, the Justice Department headed by Attorney General Eric Holder is a national disgrace.  Terrorists and those out to undermine our borders and trample our laws are laughing at us!

Monday’s ruling, blocking a Texas law requiring voters to show a photo ID, should be the last in a very large pile of “last straws.”  A few months ago, the same Holder Injustice Department blocked a similar requirement in the state of South Carolina.

Why?  Injustice says this requirement places an undue burden on minorities.  How so?  Continue reading “The “Injustice” Department”

John Boehner is a Hypocrite!

How can you tell if a politician is lying?  If his (or her) lips are moving.  So goes one of the oldest political jokes. It would not be funny if it were not true.

Barack Obama wants a socialist nanny state.  He believes that the government should take care of our every need.   Furthermore, he wants the government to define those needs.  In order to fund the nanny state, he must redistribute the wealth in the country.

For those who were not paying attention during the 2008 presidential election, Obama campaigned on what he termed “economic fairness” and “social justice.”  To the uninitiated, these words may sound benign, but those terms are right out of the play book of Karl Marx. Is Gingrich a “Consistent” Conservative?

Newt Gingrich has billed himself as the more “consistent conservative” in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.  According to Gingrich, he engineered the 1995 Republican takeover of the House of Representatives, balanced the budget and reformed welfare.  If that is the case, why wouldn’t all conservatives want this man in the White House?

In 1994, Gingrich did lead the revolution that enabled Republicans to take control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.   However, his record on balancing the budget and welfare reform needs an asterisk.  And, sadly, under his leadership, the GOP quickly lost its footing and became part of the problem in Washington.

Under the Contract with America Continue reading “Is Gingrich a “Consistent” Conservative?”

The Unwanted Christmas Gift

Ronald Reagan correctly stated that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”

The very last thing we need is a new government agency micromanaging the financial decisions of banks, businesses and individuals. We already have seven powerful entities tasked with the oversight of the banking, lending and investment industries.

We have the Federal Reserve. We have the Comptroller of the Currency. We have the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. We have the Securities and Exchange Commission. We have the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. We have the National Credit Union Administration and the Federal Housing Finance Agency. They have done such a wonderful job. Just look at the mess we’re in!

Now, the Obama Administration and the Democrats have given us a new, onerous, unaccountable regulatory agency with virtually unlimited power to control all of our money that isn’t hidden under a rock somewhere. It’s called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. If you are the least bit familiar with Washington, the name alone is enough to leave you shaking in your boots. Suckers!

One of the most familiar comic strips in history has Peanut’s character Lucy holding the football for gullible Charlie Brown. It has been repeated again and again. We all know what is going to happen. At the very last moment Lucy will pull the football out of the way and Charlie Brown, with his full force behind the kick, goes sprawling.

It’s all very funny. Why does Charlie keep falling for Lucy’s promise that she will never, ever do this again? Still we laugh. We can’t seem to get enough of it. Why? Because it mirrors real life.

We the people are Charlie Brown, Congress is Lucy and our ballooning national debt is the football. Continue reading “Suckers!”

Obama’s Latest Plan to take over the Private Sector

Quick, name me one thing the government does better than the private sector?

Frankly, I’ve really tried and I can’t come up with one.

At the moment, I am reeling over the latest scheme to expand government under the guise of shoring up the nation’s real estate market.  President Obama is laying the groundwork to become the nation’s landlord-in-chief.   He wants the government to rent out these houses.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency announced it is seeking input from investors on how to rent homes owned by government-controlled Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration.

One-term President; One-term Speaker

The American people just got flimflamed by their elected representatives, again.

It’s a matter of simple arithmetic.  You are spending more than you are taking in.  Your salary is flat with no relief in the foreseeable future so your family is forced to cut its budget.  Will you be spending more or less next year than you are this year?

“What kind of question is that?” you ask.  “Of course, I will be spending less.”

Not in Washington.  Our lawmakers were asked to cut the budget and they made a deal that has us spending more each and every year.  It’s a con game that has been going on inside the beltway for far too many years now and it has got to stop!
