John Boehner is a Hypocrite!

How can you tell if a politician is lying?  If his (or her) lips are moving.  So goes one of the oldest political jokes. It would not be funny if it were not true.

Barack Obama wants a socialist nanny state.  He believes that the government should take care of our every need.   Furthermore, he wants the government to define those needs.  In order to fund the nanny state, he must redistribute the wealth in the country.

For those who were not paying attention during the 2008 presidential election, Obama campaigned on what he termed “economic fairness” and “social justice.”  To the uninitiated, these words may sound benign, but those terms are right out of the play book of Karl Marx. Is Gingrich a “Consistent” Conservative?

Newt Gingrich has billed himself as the more “consistent conservative” in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.  According to Gingrich, he engineered the 1995 Republican takeover of the House of Representatives, balanced the budget and reformed welfare.  If that is the case, why wouldn’t all conservatives want this man in the White House?

In 1994, Gingrich did lead the revolution that enabled Republicans to take control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.   However, his record on balancing the budget and welfare reform needs an asterisk.  And, sadly, under his leadership, the GOP quickly lost its footing and became part of the problem in Washington.

Bribery!

What is your price, the price you would take to sell out your country? What price would you take to sell out your children? What price would you take to sell out your grandmother?

Would you sell out your country for a million dollars, a billion perhaps? What is the freedom that you now enjoy really worth? If you had a cool billion in your pocket, would you be willing to take your chances in another part of the world, under a dictator perhaps?

What about the future of your children? Okay, I will admit to considering this question on one of their really bad days, but let’s be serious. Most of us wouldn’t take a billion to trash the future of our own flesh and blood. And Granny? You’ve got to be kidding!

Nevertheless, President Barack Obama, most Democrats and, sadly, many Republican leaders think you are willing to sell out your country, your kids and Granny for a mere thousand bucks.

Give the Lady a Break

Liberals hate professional conservative women because they fly in the face of left-wing dogma. That is a given. But, why is it that so many on the right refuse to give accomplished women like Michele Bachmann their due?

I secretly hoped that Bachmann would not enter the 2012 presidential race. Frankly, I didn’t want to be put in a position of having to defend her considerable accomplishments. It’s a thankless job.

Nevertheless, now that Bachmann is in this race, can’t we give her a break? Continue reading “Give the Lady a Break”

Obama’s Latest Plan to take over the Private Sector

Quick, name me one thing the government does better than the private sector?

Frankly, I’ve really tried and I can’t come up with one.

At the moment, I am reeling over the latest scheme to expand government under the guise of shoring up the nation’s real estate market.  President Obama is laying the groundwork to become the nation’s landlord-in-chief.   He wants the government to rent out these houses.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency announced it is seeking input from investors on how to rent homes owned by government-controlled Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration.

Washington: Definition of a Budget “Cut”

There are a few simple words in the English language that are universally understood.

In 1998, President Clinton, caught in the Lewinsky scandal, strained our imagination when he uttered this now infamous line: “It depends what the definition of ‘is’ is.”  Is, is the 3rd person singular, present indicative of the verb, “be,” and no amount of presidential posturing can change that.

There is another simple little word that is almost universally misunderstood, at least as it is applied in the nation’s Capitol.  It is the word “cut.”   Unlike the word “is,” cut has many definitions.  However, all of them are quite simple with one big exception.

The definition of cut that is fraught with complexities inside the Washington beltway is “to lower, reduce, diminish, or curtail.”   Continue reading “Washington: Definition of a Budget “Cut””

Lance Armstrong: Brilliance on a Bike?

It takes one to know one.  Therefore, one must assume that professional cyclist Lance Armstrong is among the world’s “brightest” people.

Last week, Armstrong was the lead pony at the National Press Club for the pony and dog show put on by the American Cancer Society for the purpose of denouncing the Republican plan to cut the budget of the National Institutes of Health by a tiny 5.2 percent.

The dreaded 1995 bogeyman

Will there be a government shutdown?  If Senate Democrats and President Obama refuse to cooperate with the GOP-led House of Representatives and begin the process of cutting the government down to size before we reach the national debt limit, it’s possible.

The Democrats are betting that Republicans will blink and they are using the last, and what they believe to be the best weapon in their arsenal, the 1995 bogeyman, to scare them into abandoning their principled stand.

This boogeyman is without form or substance but in the years that followed those infamous government shutdowns, it has been known to strike fear into the hearts of the most dedicated fiscal conservative representatives on Capitol Hill.  Indeed, this creature has left many a congressman shaking in his or her boots or stilettoes. Republicans, Can We Trust Them?

Republicans have gained control of the House of Representatives.  They now have the ability to  cut the federal budget down to size and put us on the road to fiscal stability.   This is their stated goal.

It doesn’t matter what kind of budget President Obama turns in.  In doesn’t matter what the Senate does.  Not a dime can be spent unless it is approved by the House of Representatives.

All the Republican-led House of Representatives has to do to control federal spending is put its collective foot down.

Bottom line: There can be no deficit spending next year, unless House Republican’s cave. Continue reading “Republicans, Can We Trust Them?”
