The Shameless Republican Party

Rats. I wanted to write a book about Mark Foley and the Republican Party but Bob Woodward stole my title. “State of Denial” best describes the attitude of House leadership that turned a blind eye toward the unusual amount of interest the Florida congressman showed toward young boys who were serving as House pages.Of course, House Speaker Denny Hastert should step down! That’s what an honorable man does when he makes a mistake of this magnitude.

Republican partisans are rallying to the speaker’s defense and blaming it on Democrat operatives who held and released those sexually explicit instant messages just before the election. However, there is still plenty of time to call everybody back to Washington and pick a replacement for Hastert. Continue reading “The Shameless Republican Party”

Real Men Don’t Use Women for Cannon Fodder

The long awaited hour-long debate between Sen. George Allen, R-Va., and his Democrat challenger, Jim Webb, on “Meet the Press” was down right embarrassing. Both men want to be known as strong military eaders. However, when host Tim Russert pressed them on the issue of women in combat, both men were swept overboard in a sea of political correctness and grabbed for a lifeboat of feminist ideology. For the uninitiated, feminists don’t see a need for the military, but, if we must have one, they want to run it. It is difficult to climb up the chain of command without combat experience. That’s why it is necessary to perpetuate the myth that men and women are interchangeable fungibles. Rhode Island’s Lesson for Real Republicans

How did our country stray so far from the founding principles of limited government, states’ rights, self-reliance and moral integrity? Most Americans blame it on Congress.

Americans have little faith in members of Congress, but we keep re-electing our own congressman and senators, often with little or no serious thought on the matter. Continue reading “Rhode Island’s Lesson for Real Republicans”

Here Piggy, Piggy!

Greased pig races used to be quite common. Little piglets were selected for these events and they were next to impossible to catch. Just when you thought you had one in your grasp, it would slip through your fingers and run into the bushes. Instead of a race, it became a game of hide-and-seek.

That’s what has been going on in Washington. During the month of August, there was a search for a couple of pigs in bushes – the two-legged kind, who line up at the public trough and gobble large amounts of tax dollars faster than you can say “government waste.” Last week, they were captured (identified), and now a couple of others are on the loose. This is hide-and-seek coupled with musical chairs. Continue reading “Here Piggy, Piggy!”

Have They No Shame?

Last Thursday, the FDA announced that it has approved over-the-counter sales for “Plan B,” the morning-after pill, which is essentially a mega-dose of the drugs found in birth control pills.

Birth control pills require a doctor’s prescription because they can cause life-threatening problems for women with certain health conditions. A prescription assures that a woman buying birth control pills has been screened to make sure that these pills don’t harm her health or take her life. That is being responsible.

Making mega-doses of this drug available over-the-counter, without a prescription, is not only irresponsible; it is unconscionable! Continue reading “Have They No Shame?”

The President’s “Plan B”

Everybody needs a “plan B” in case “plan A” doesn’t work. However, few would come up with a plan B that could cause serious harm.Unfortunately, the “Plan B” that Andrew von Eschenbach, President Bush’s nominee to head the Food and Drug Administration, now wants sold over-the-counter to prevent pregnancy could cause serious medical complications for some women. That makes von Eschenbach completely unqualified to lead one of the agencies charged with safeguarding the nation’s health. Continue reading “The President’s “Plan B””

Do You REALLY Support the Troops?

Two weeks ago, I wrote an article entitled  “Will the Military Cut and Run on the Homosexual Issue.”  It concerned flack over language in a 1996 policy document (reauthorized in 2003) that outlines retirement or other discharge policies for service members. The document, which was unearthed by a gay advocacy group, the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military, listed homosexuality along with a group of mental disorders as reasons for discharge. The Center used this discovery to orchestrate a media campaign designed to browbeat those in charge of our military to reword the document in order to perpetuate the myth that homosexual activity is normal healthy behavior. How ‘Wetlands’ threaten freedom

What is a “wetland”?This is not a trick question, but it is important that we get it right.

It is the key to an issue that goes to the very core of what constitutes a free country: the right to own and control property.

Most reasonable people would give a simple answer to that simple question: A “wetland” is a wet land – land that is under water at least most of the time. When people think of wetlands they see bogs, marshes and swamps. It’s as simple as what the definition of “is” is, or so it would seem. Continue reading “How ‘Wetlands’ threaten freedom”

Will the military “cut and run” on homosexual issue?

Is the military about to “cut and run” over the issue of allowing open homosexuals to serve in our Armed Forces? The answer is “yes.”More correctly, military leaders and those charged with the oversight of the military are about to cut and run.

When it comes to dealing with controversial issues, the men behind the military’s Oz-like “curtain” are not men at all but scared little boys and girls when it comes to standing up to narrow, vocal special-interest groups – especially those that are the darlings of the mainstream media.
