The Election and the Christian

America is teetering on the brink of economic collapse. Our savings and investments have eroded while the costs of health care and energy are out of control. Our national debt has gone through the roof.

The world is more dangerous than ever. Our borders are no longer defended. Our courts are out of control. A majority of our judges no longer feel bound by the law or the Constitution which has been our plumb line. Instead, they prefer to strike out on their own. Property rights and parental rights have been eroded. The institution of marriage is under attack.

Elections can be a daunting experience for any voter. There are so many issues. The candidates’ positions are often couched in political doublespeak. What’s a voter to do? More important, what’s a Christian to do? Continue reading “The Election and the Christian”

Obama Theme Song: “I could have danced all night!”

The dance he danced at Saturday’s nights Civil Forum at Saddleback Church was meant to dazzle us, as it has dazzled audiences countless times before. It was carefully choreographed and well rehearsed. Barack Obama went through the near flawless routine, but this time, something unexpected happed.

The music stopped! Continue reading “Obama Theme Song: “I could have danced all night!””

What Fred Thompson Needs to Know About the Human Life Amendment

Fred Thompson tripped over the abortion issue in his debut as a presidential candidate on “Meet the Press.”

Host Tim Russert read Thompson the Pro Life Plank from the 2004 Republican Party Platform, which has remained unchanged since the days of Ronald Reagan:

We say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution. We endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions.

Russert then asked Thompson,

Could you run as a candidate on that platform, promising a human life amendment banning all abortions?

The Dirty Little Secret about Europe’s Teen Pregnancy Rates

Have you ever wondered why some of the most permissive countries in Europe like Holland, Denmark and France have such low teen pregnancy and abortion rates? In April, I wrote a column that provoked this e-mail:

Does abstinence education really work so well? I wondered because Holland, which does not promote abstinence education, and instead teaches fully and frankly about contraception, has only 12 teenage pregnancies per 1,000 pregnancies, while the U.S. has more than 80 per 1000. … I would be pleased if you could offer me some instances where abstinence has lowered teen pregnancy rates.

These are good questions and they deserve honest answers. However, the research was much harder than I expected because of the bias that exists in the media for abortion and the anything-goes-as-long-as-it-goes-with-a-condom (“safe sex” or “comprehensive”) brand of sex education that is so common in our schools. Can’t We Agree This Is Reprehensible?

Justice Anthony Kennedy did the unthinkable when writing the majority opinion for Gonzales v. Carhart, the 5-4 Supreme Court decision that upheld the federal partial-birth abortion ban. He described this procedure with painstaking detail, exposing this barbaric practice to the harsh light of day. Furthermore, he referred to the subject targeted for destruction as an “infant,” not a “fetus.” Continue reading “Can’t We Agree This Is Reprehensible?”

Planned Parenthood Keeping Women in the Dark

Planned Parenthood is the most dangerous organization in America today!

In 1984, I was taken aback by those words. They were uttered by Dr. Bernard Nathanson as I was interviewing him for a documentary on abortion called “A Matter of Choice.” Nathanson once ran the largest abortion facility in the state of New York. After the development of realtime ultrasound imaging, which opened a window to the womb, he became an ardent defender of the preborn.

When Dr. Nathanson, first made that statement, I thought he was some kind of nut! What possibly could be wrong with helping married women plan their families? Continue reading “Planned Parenthood Keeping Women in the Dark”

Intimidation or Informed Consent?

A young woman is driven to an outpatient surgery center by an older man. She looks frail and distraught. As the two approach the reception desk, her companion takes control of the situation. “Miss Jones is here for a tubal ligation,” he says. The receptionist asks, “Do you have insurance?” He answers for her, “No, we’ll pay cash.”

“That will be $1,700. Here is the form to sign, ” said the receptionist. She slides the paper toward the woman. The young woman sighs as she nervously signs her name. He quickly writes a check.

Then the woman is ushered into a back room and given a gown. There is no explanation of what the procedure entails. Two hours later, she appears in a wheelchair, groggy from the procedure and is helped into his waiting car.

The sterilization center made a quick $1,700 sale. Her lover is now free to enjoy unprotected sex with her without the complication of pregnancy until he moves on to someone else. However, her life has been irrevocably altered. Continue reading “Intimidation or Informed Consent?”

Why the term “Secular Progressive” is all Wrong

Have you wondered what happened to old-fashioned liberalism? It went the way of VCRs and land lines. Today’s liberals are hiding in plain sight but they no longer refer to themselves as “liberal.” They refer to themselves as “progressive.”Let’s be clear about one thing: There is nothing “progressive” about liberalism, which is another word for socialism or communism. Confessions of a former Girl Scout

I used to hate this time of year. My stomach was in knots as I encountered eager young girls dressed in smart green or brown uniforms selling Girl Scout cookies. There was a time when I simply bought a box from every young girl I encountered. It didn’t matter how many boxes I already had at home. I simply bought more. I thought of it as a way to pay back the people who bought them from me in my youth. Also, I was giving other young girls a chance to enjoy the scouting experience.

Enough!

As much as it hurts me to turn down a cute little girl, wide-eyed with the anticipation of her next sale, I simply can’t do it anymore!

It’s not that I don’t want to support scouting. It’s just that I cannot continue to support what the Girl Scouts have become: a tool of the radical feminist movement, anti-God, pro-abortion, pro-homosexuality. Continue reading “Confessions of a former Girl Scout”

Obama: Just another pretty (liberal) Face

The meteoric political rise of Barack Obama is something rarely seen in American politics. In 2000, he was soundly defeated in his first and only bid for a spot in the U.S. House of Representatives. Four years later, he was propelled into the Senate and, after serving one-third of his term, is a presidential front-runner with the wind at his back. Most Americans choose their president the way a 7-year-old chooses her Barbie doll. If you simply want a president who is handsome, charismatic and articulate, then Obama is your candidate. Continue reading “Obama: Just another pretty (liberal) Face”
