What the Polls are REALLY telling us about the Shutdown

Woe to the GOP!  Beware of a government shutdown!  You will be blamed and if you persist in challenging the president.  You will lose control of the House of Representatives and kill any chance of regaining control of the Senate!

These “world will come to an end” warnings were issued by the Republican establishment and  often repeated by timid GOP elected representatives who fear — above all else — being thrown out of office and having to get real jobs like the rest of us poor saps who pay their salaries.

Who can blame them?

In the USA they helped to create, jobs are hard to come by and even harder to maintain.

Now, the party establishment and their echo chorus in Congress are gleefully pointing to the latest Washington Post/ ABC News poll that shows that 74 percent of the American people are unhappy with the way they are handling these negotiations and saying, “I told you so!”

Not so fast.  Continue reading “What the Polls are REALLY telling us about the Shutdown”

Cruzing for a Bruising

Some things are worth fighting for.  Ted Cruz believes that defunding Obamacare is one of those things and he is willing to use every means available to make that happen.

Some people say his 21-hour talkathon on the Senate floor was tantamount to trashing at windmills.  I say he accomplished his purpose.   He not only put that issue front and center, he exposed the leaders of his party as weak-kneed scaredy cats.

If you go into a fight you have to be willing to get your nose bloodied to win.  Has Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell ever put up his dukes?  He is too busy playing footsie with Democrat Leader Harry Reid to fight for anything.

Make no mistake:  McConnell has the power to make Reid agree to allow a clean up-or- down vote on the Continuing Resolution passed by the House that would fund the government sans Obamacare by getting 41 Republicans to back a filibuster.  However, the lily-livered McConnell and his lieutenant, John Cornyn, are working with Reid to strip the bill of that requirement. Why Americans have no confidence in Republicans

Conversation overheard on a street near the nation’s Capitol building.

Person 1:  (In a panic) What was that loud boom?  Was it an earthquake?  A sonic boom?  Are we under attack?  Where is the nearest fallout shelter?

Person 2:  Don’t worry.  It’s just the sound of Republicans caving.  You’ll get used to it after a while.  It occurs quite often, especially around this time of year.  Relax.

Yes, it’s an all too familiar sound in Washington, D.C.  No one is surprised by it.

You may not be able to hear the boom or feel the tremors emanating from Washington, D.C. from your spot hinter  lands, but the results are felt by every American: a sluggish economy,  joblessness, higher prices, stagnant wages, vacant buildings and ailing businesses. Ben Carson: Yes He Can! (Become President of the United States)

It is becoming clear that the Republican successor to Ronald Reagan may not come from Congress.  He may not have executive experience as a governor of a state, though these are the roads most often traveled to the White House.

There is a new name on the lips of the politically engaged.   To the uninitiated he might appear a most unlikely candidate.

Benjamin Carson is a physician, a gifted neurosurgeon who has a way with words as well as a scalpel.  In fact, many say his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on February 7, cut the President of the United States, who was seated just a few feet away, to the quick.   Some, like conservative commentator Cal Thomas, called his remarks “inappropriate.”  Others say they were a breath of fresh air, a lesson in economics mixed with Biblical truths that are indisputable.

The truth is that Dr. Carson, a devout man, did not direct his remarks to the president.  He has been writing and speaking about these issues for some time.  However, he did not pull any punches in this venue simply because Barack Obama chose to attend. No Laughing Matter

President Obama is trying to shore up the youth vote, one of his most reliable voting blocs in the 2008 election.   He is visiting colleges campuses in swing states and appeared with late night comedy host Jimmy Fallon in the wee hours Wednesday.

There isn’t as much laughter now from the college set and just being a cool dude who loves basketball isn’t going to be enough to impress the 18-29 crowd this time around.  Many of those voters have grown too weary looking for work to be swayed by his youthful appearance or empty promises about “hope and change” because most have neither. ObamaCare Inch by Inch

ObamaCare, HillaryCare, national health care, universal health care and single payer are all euphemisms that have been used for socialized medicine.

Why all the euphemisms?  It’s because socialized medicine has been a abject failure and has never been able to deliver on its advertised promise of better health care for less.  In fact, the hallmark of socialized medicine is just the opposite.  It delivers less quality health care and the costs skyrocket with every passing year until. . .  rationing is imposed.

Some of you are under the notion that we dodged a bullet with ObamaCare, that the so-called “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”  left the president far from his initial goal. Continue reading “ObamaCare Inch by Inch”

Obama’s kinder, gentler “Death Panels”

Truth is in short supply in Washington.

That is why recent statements made by Donald Berwick, President Obama’s Nominee to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, are both refreshing and chilling.

Here’s what Dr. Berwick had to say in a 2009 interview with Biotechnology Healthcare:

“The decision is not whether or not we will ration care – the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open.” Continue reading “Obama’s kinder, gentler “Death Panels””

. . . for the Children

The most deceitful, sappiest excuse Democrats offered for forcing the hugely unpopular, socialist medical bill down our throats is . . . they did it for the children!

Since the beginning of organized government, kings, dictators, presidents, legislators and politicians of all stripes have used children as an excuse for advancing any number of their favorite big-ticket items that, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t pass the smell test.

But, have you taken a closer look at whom this latest batch of unaccountable, weak-willed, Pelosi-whipped politicians are calling “children”?   They are twenty-five-year-olds! Continue reading “. . . for the Children”

Fooling Granny

Obama went to Ohio this week to make a final push for the so-called health care reform bill crated by Democrats in the Senate.   He made the following statement that is patently untrue and designed to fool the nation’s senior citizens.

And every senior should know there is no cutting of your guaranteed Medicare benefits.  Period.  No “ifs,” “ands,” or “buts.”  This proposal makes Medicare stronger.  It makes the coverage better and it makes the finances more secure.

Health Care and the Scraggly Broom

Everyone needs a broom.  It’s a basic cleaning instrument.  Cleanliness is important to one’s overall health and well-being.  Therefore, everyone should have a “right” to an effective broom.

All brooms are not equal.  Some brooms are too heavy.  Other brooms are too light.  Still, others are too thin to do an adequate job.  The good citizens of the United States of America demand broom standards.

Congress begins crafting a bill.  Brooms must be made to accommodate Americans of various weights and heights.  Also, brooms must be light enough to be operated by the weak and infirm.   The lobbying continues.  One group demands that the straw be “odder free.”  Another group wants the broom manufacturers to certify that the brooms are made of “all natural” materials.  Still, another wants to set the wages and benefits for the workers in the broom manufacturing industry.    Continue reading “Health Care and the Scraggly Broom”
