No Thank You Obama

So now we know why Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer  looked as if they were sucking on lemons during President Trump’s State of the Union address.  They wanted him to thank Obama for all the good economic news he was touting.

That’s why members of the Congressional (Democrat) Black Caucus could not bring themselves to cheer when Trump announced that the black unemployment rate was now the lowest in the history of our nation.

Most forget that the financial crisis that occurred from the housing bubble in 2008 was ended before Obama took office.  The recession that followed was made worse by his pathetic attempt to micromanage the economy.  This led to the nation’s weakest economic recovery in modern history.   And let us not forget the $800 billion dollars Obama fleeced out of we the taxpayers for those shovel-ready jobs.   I think it is safe to say that if that $800 billion had been spend as advertised, we would not have an infrastructure problem now.  In fact, many of our roads and bridges would be paved with gold.   Continue reading “No Thank You Obama”

Dreamers, Screamers and Schemers

President Trump’s latest immigration offer is baffling to say the least.  After winning a great victory over Democrats in their short-lived government shutdown, Trump appears to have caved.

Despite what the perpetual white-flag-waving Mitch McConnell said about the president’s demands for a DACA deal being unclear, they were understood by most clear-thinking Americans:  amnesty for some 800,000 DACA young people in exchange for funding the border wall, and an end to chain migration and the visa lottery.  All these things were enormously popular with Americans all across the political spectrum, Democrats in Congress excluded who are united on only one thing:  their opposition to Trump.

So why, oh why, did Trump more than double his original offer to include, not only the DACA recipients, but another million or so who couldn’t qualify or wouldn’t bother to qualify for DACA.  Furthermore, he is offering not simple amnesty: the right to stay, live and work in the greatest country on earth, but citizenship to boot.   Continue reading “Dreamers, Screamers and Schemers”

March for Life vs. Women’s March: A Study in Contrasts

Last weekend saw tens of thousands flock to Washinton, DC and major cities throughout the United States to exercise a basic right of individuals in a free society:  The right to rally and march in support of a cause:  One side gathered to support life; the other side gathered to support the right to take the life of the most vulnerable among us, a child in the womb.

Forty-five years after the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, the two sides show up on or near the anniversary of arguably the most controversial decision ever handed down by the nation’s highest court, a decision that now hangs by a legal thread.

However, for the last two years, the pro-abortion side has morphed into an anti-Trump protest. Homosexuals, transexuals, illegal immigrants, witches, prostitutes, socialists filled the streets along with women who were not shy about expressing their distaste for the current occupant of the White House.

The marches were a study in contrasts:  One march was angry, loud, disrespectful and crude.  The other peaceful, respectful and at times even joyful.   Continue reading “March for Life vs. Women’s March: A Study in Contrasts”

Trump’s Real Mistakes in the Immigration Debate (Hint: It Wasn’t His Choice of Words

Let’s get serious about the mistakes Donald Trump made last Thursday in the sit-down with six liberal senators, three Democrats: Durbin (IL) Bennet (CO) and Menendez (NJ) and three Republicans:  Graham (SC), Flake (AZ) and Gardiner (CO).   It was not his choice of words.  It was that he trusted that those involved were actually serious about making a deal for the  amnesty of 800,000 young people (some now in their 30s though we have no absolute proof of age) who claim to have been brought here by their illegal parents as minors.

The meeting was a farce.  If these six lawmakers were truly concerned about the DACA young people, many of whom were so young when they arrived they know no other country, then they would have offered a plan that not only dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s, but also included what the president demanded in return.  His Continue reading “Trump’s Real Mistakes in the Immigration Debate (Hint: It Wasn’t His Choice of Words”

Are Dreamers not Worth $18 Billion to Democrats?

How nice of the Democrats and their pro-amnesty Republican friends!  They want to help President Trump sell what they hope will be his surrender on the border wall to his supporters and the overwhelming majority of Americans who want illegal immigration stopped once and for all.  Their solution to his “problem,” they claim, can be found in how he defines the word “wall.”

President Clinton tried that with the word “is.”   Continue reading “Are Dreamers not Worth $18 Billion to Democrats?”

Best Christmas Gift Ever!

It is no accident that the stores are jammed this time of year with last minute Christmas shoppers.  I don’t think it is because most of us are procrastinators by nature.  I don’t think it is because shoppers have learned that the closer to Christmas, the better the discounts.  No, I think it is because we keep looking for the best gift ever for that special someone.

When I was young, I would invariably wait until the very last minute to buy a gift for my mom, knowing full well that there was nothing I could possibly give her that could show her the full measure of my love.  Now, it is the gift for my husband Roger that causes me to wait until the very last minute.  Oh, sure, I have lots of ideas, but somehow I just keep waiting for something better to explode into my consciousness that I couldn’t possibly have imagined the other 364 days a year.    Continue reading “Best Christmas Gift Ever!”

Dear Uncle Santa (My Christmas Wish List)

It’s that time of year when all good boys and girls write a letter to Santa and give him their wish lists so I thought I would do the same.

Okay, so I’m not a kid anymore but, let’s face it, so many citizens act like children when it comes to giving our elected representatives their respective wish lists, treating their Uncle Sam like Santa.  In the real world Santa doesn’t deliver the presents, mom and dad must buy them and place them under the tree.

When I was a kid, I asked for a pony.  Mom and dad had to explain that Santa knew that we lived in the city and there would be no place to keep this pony.  Furthermore, this miniature equine would end up costing more that our family could afford.  Therefore, Santa regretfully had to edit my wish list and cut it down to size.

Unfortunately, many citizens act like spoiled children when they make demands on Washington, with little thought as to who will pay the bill.   Unfortunately, many of our elected representatives act like the parents of Continue reading “Dear Uncle Santa (My Christmas Wish List)”

Why I Believe Judge Roy Moore

As this nation’s first female television sportscaster,  I can tell you something about sexual harassment, although we didn’t call it that in those days.  It was either a proposition or simply boorish behavior.

My first boss, who was married, came on to me.  When I said, “Thanks but no thanks,”  he tried to get me fired.  He failed.  Then, he preceded to make my life miserable at work.  It was a cold war until I moved and went to work at another television station.

Once I had a co-worker who continually hit on me.  He was a good man and I knew it wasn’t serious, but his constant attention and suggestive remarks were annoying.   In some strange way he though this was flattering to a woman.  One day I decided to take matters in hand.  The next time it happened, I took a flying leap and landed in his arms in full view of everyone.  He was so embarrassed, he never did it again.

Working in an almost entirely all-male environment, I found most men to be honorable, kind, respectful and extremely fair.

However, in my lifetime I have seen many men destroyed by a false accusation from a woman.  Continue reading “Why I Believe Judge Roy Moore”

Thanksgiving 2017: Where is God?

These last few months have been filled with a series of tragedies too horrible to have been imagined: hurricanes, one after another, brought death and devastation in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.  Nature’s wrath was accompanied by man-made tragedies in Las Vegas and Sutherland, Texas.  The loss of life and property brought pain and suffering that will continue for years to come and, for some, may never be overcome.

This Thanksgiving will be celebrated by many in shelters or bleak circumstances without running water or electricity.  For others there will be empty spots around the table.  Some may not feel like giving thanks at all and may be asking, “Where is God?” Continue reading “Thanksgiving 2017: Where is God?”

The Hypocrisy Surrounding Judge Roy Moore

Let me be clear:  If Roy Moore is guilty of the alleged case of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old 38 years ago, and the latest charge of a sexual attack of a 16-year-old, I think he should step aside in the Alabama Senate race. I also think Bill Clinton should have stepped aside or been forced out by his party when it was discovered he had sexual relations with a White House Intern —in the Oval Office no less — and that Ted Kennedy should have suffered the same fate after it was revealed that he failed to call for help for a drowning, much younger Mary Jo Kopechne.

In the case of Judge Moore and the 14-year-old, the charges against him were leveled by a troubled, dysfunctional teen and may have been unearthed and/or massaged by overly aggressive, politically-motivated reporters at the Washinton Post who went on a deep-diving fishing expedition before the Alabama Special Election which is just a weeks away.    However, it is the most recent charge brought by Beverly Young Nelson, presented by dumpster-diving attorney Gloria Allred, that fails the credibility test.
