A Victory for the Great Unwashed (Now GOP Leaders must Put Up or Shut Up)

I was born in what was then a deep blue state, into a Democratic family.  Among my kin you were either a Democrat or un-American.  As a youngster I asked my parents, “Why are we Democrats?”  They answered, “Because Democrats are for the working people.”

My parents both worked very hard and so I just accepted that.  When I turned 18, I registered to vote and proudly voted in every election.  I didn’t know anything about the issues, but I voted.  When I became a parent, I began to study the issues and realized that Democrats were not what they seemed.  They supported principles that undermined the working class, small business owners and immigrants who wanted their shot at the American dream.   As the years rolled by, these Democrats took positions that were, well, un-American.

Much to my chagrin, I discovered, that Republicans weren’t much better.  Although, they talked a good ballgame about law and order, the free enterprise system and protecting the rights of the minority by defending the Constitution, they were afraid to make the case for these beliefs.  They were gradually taken over by political correctness and were unwilling to fight for anything for fear of losing their precious seats in Congress and their small grip on what power they had left. Mother Teresa, Hillary and You

Here in this country we spend over a trillion dollars a year on poverty programs.  Over 45 million people in the United States are classified as “poor.”  However, most of our citizens have never seen real poverty or know what it is.  My eyes were opened when I visited Haiti in 1968, and again in 1985, when I visited India, the country adopted by Mother Teresa.

Unlike Mother Teresa, I did not go to India willingly.  I struggled with the Lord for weeks before I agreed to make that journey in order to help Siloam International, now Childcare Worldwide, with a fundraising film.   That was a life-changing event for me.

Three years later I had an opportunity to meet Mother Teresa and pray with her.   The woman, who was canonized by the Catholic Church Sunday, went to St. Louis, Missouri, to speak to the annual conference of the Presbyterian Church USA about its pro-abortion stance.  She was invited by Presbyterians Pro-Life, a small group of reformers seeking to bring the denomination back to its biblical roots.

PPL is a dedicated group.  It didn’t have any money but she came anyway because, in her words, “As to my calling I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the heart of Jesus.” Continue reading “Mother Teresa, Hillary and You”

Mike Pence: The Left’s New Bogeyman

To say that the left is adamantly against Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, is to state the obvious. However, in the days since the Indiana governor was chosen, liberals have been having conniptions for fear that this unassuming, soft-spoken, likable Hoosier, might be able to sway some to, horrors, vote Republican.

Pence is their new bogeyman, one to be feared more than ISIS, more than corporate greed, even more than the greatest threat to mankind — global warming.

Eric Schmeltzer, writing for the Huffington Post called him “Sarah Palin (a popular left-wing target) without the charisma.” Whooo!

Schmeltzer again on his blog: “It isn’t so much that Mike Pence is a lightweight in the brains department. It’s that Mike Pence is a lightweight in the brains department and also ridiculously incompetent.” Double whooo! Continue reading “Mike Pence: The Left’s New Bogeyman”

GA Governor Feeds Faith-Based Organizations to Gay Activist Lions

On Monday, Nathan Deal, the Republican governor of Georgia,  threw his faith and principles aside in order to feed the radical gay rights activists lions who were baring their teeth and threatening his state.

This move has far-reaching implications for the rest of the nation because it empowers these bullies and the powerful corporations who support them.

Let’s be clear:  The bill Deal vetoed was one of the weakest attempts to restore the religious protections afforded by the First Amendment by any state.  In fact, it did nothing to protect the freedom that should be available to ever person of faith.  It only addressed religious institutions. The State of the Family

In his State of the Union address Tuesday, President Obama, once again, told us that “the state of the union is strong.”  Our citizens know differently.  Here’s what Obama didn’t tell you:

  • The unemployment rate may be down, but the labor participation rate is a paltry 62.6 percent. It is still stuck at a 38 year low.
  • The average hourly pay also is stuck, sliding one cent last month to $25.24. That left the growth of average pay at 2.5 percent for the year, well below the 3.5 percent economists consider healthy.
  • The same goes for health care.  The percentage of adults without coverage remains at around 12%.  Meanwhile, Obamacare premiums skyrocketed an average of 7.5%.
  • The Dow Jones industrial average, faded by 2.2 percent, its first down year since 2008.

Armed with this knowledge, I was much more interested in Monday night’s report on the “State of the Family” delivered by Tony Perkins at the Family Research Council Continue reading “The State of the Family”

Why Christmas Matters

Last week, I went into the Gap to buy a gift card for a young friend of ours.  I asked for one that said “Merry Christmas” and the clerk said, “Oh, you won’t find anything like that in here.”  I was stunned.  Then I remembered an email I received from the American Family Association on its “Naughty or Nice” list listing retailers who were friendly or openly hostile to this annual opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ.

I made a mental note to go back and check that “Naughty or Nice” list  as I thanked the clerk, but told here that I would go elsewhere.

Why would any company that does business in the United States go out of its way to insult 90 percent of the population?  Could it be that we are so busy “celebrating” that we have forgotten the reason for the season or that we no longer care?   Continue reading “Why Christmas Matters”

Before You Cast Your First Stone (At Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis)

The PC police, who seem hellbent on forcing all people to accept gay marriage after the  controversial Supreme Court Obergefell decision, suffered a setback when activist federal judge David Bunning released Kim Davis from a Kentucky jail.  Davis, a county clerk, spent five days behind bars after refusing to have marriage licenses to same-sex couples go out under her name, which would, in effect,  be condoning a practice that violates her religious beliefs.

Judge Bunning simply could have slapped Kim Davis with a fine but, no, this activist liberal judge chose to throw her in jail until she complied with his wishes.  Tuesday, Bunning backed down, bowing to pressure after denying Davis her due process and her rights under the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.   Continue reading “Before You Cast Your First Stone (At Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis)”

Outrageous Comments (Who’s Holding the Darlings of the Left Accountable?

Okay, “The Donald” put his foot in his mouth again over the weekend at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.   No one who has been watching him for very long was surprised.  When Trump attacked John McCain and said “He was a war hero because he was captured.”  He then added insult to injury by saying, “Personally, I like people who weren’t captured.” The words were barely out of his mouth before he corrected himself, but it was too late.  The sound bite was out there.  His critics pounced.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Donald Trump has not demonstrated that he has the temperament to be president.   When you put a man or woman in the Oval Office who has the black box with the codes to set off a nuclear weapon within arm’s reach, you want someone who has learned to control his or her emotions.     Continue reading “Outrageous Comments (Who’s Holding the Darlings of the Left Accountable?”

The Easter Battle

My soul was troubled as I entered the sanctuary last Sunday.  My country has turned its back on Israel.  Our president is working on a deal that will leave Iran just two weeks from having the deadliest weapon the world has ever known.  Meanwhile, that pariah nation is carving up the Middle East, along with other Islamic extremists while we do virtually nothing.  A regional war  seems inevitable, a war that could turn into WWIII.

It was if our pastor had read my mind.  His sermon was on war, more specifically, the most important battle ever fought.  It help me get things back into their proper perspective.

This battle was not between soldiers of opposing armies.  It occurred in a garden outside of Jerusalem.  It was a battle from within. Continue reading “The Easter Battle”

The Christmas Difference

Holidays are special times.  They offer a brief respite from our regular routine.   It’s a chance to get together with family and friends.  Holidays give us an opportunity to forget about our cares, have fun and celebrate whatever.

We use holidays to commemorate special events, to ring in a new year,  to show our love, to rest from our labor, to feast and help the less fortunate and to dress up in outrageous costumes.

But Christmas is different from all the other holidays.  It’s about giving and receiving.  It’s not about the gifts we buy and exchange with others, although we do a lot of that.  It’s about the greatest gift that was ever given.  Have you received it? Continue reading “The Christmas Difference”
