Obama Declares War!

Seven years into his presidency Barack Obama finally found his mojo and declared war!

Americans were astonished that within three weeks of the bloody Paris attacks, the U.S. leader dropped everything to jet to the city where the carnage occurred and, after laying a rose at the Bataclan Concert Hall, spoke persuasively to150 world leaders.

This usually mild-mannered man was extraordinarily forceful when he urged those assembled to “take action” in order to save the world against a growing threat that “could define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other.”

President Obama still is refusing to dip more than a toe in the water to defeat ISIS in Syria.  Nevertheless, he wants the rest of the world to open its doors to the Syrian population as it flees the war-torn country.

Worse still, he is doubling down on his plan to bring tens of thousands of Syrians here to be resettled among our population, even though our intelligence chiefs have informed us there is no way to adequately screen out radical Muslim terrorists hell-bent on our destruction.

Compassion is one thing: Stupidity is quite another.  In the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks, many countries are rethinking their plans to take in these Syrian migrants, since at least one of the attackers was among the recent arrivals and others were never successfully assimilated into the French population. GOP Establishment Kentucky Fried

Let’s get real:  There is a lot of angst among the GOP establishment over the outcome of the Kentucky governor’s race.

You would think that they would be celebrating the fact that a Republican, Matt Bevin, will control the executive branch in Frankfort for only the second time in four decades.  You would think that those who have been pulling the strings of power behind the scenes would be doubly happy that Jenean Hampton, his female running mate, is the first African-American from either party to hold a state-wide office, but no.

Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?

“It stinks!”  That was how incoming Speaker of the House Paul Ryan explained the back room deal hatched by outgoing Speaker John Boehner and Democrat leaders that raised the debt ceiling and put us on automatic pilot to the spending stratosphere through the rest of Obama’s term.

Boehner claimed he was “cleaning the barn” before Ryan took control of the House of Representatives but where is that smell coming from?  The entrance  to the place is spotless, but the bad odor will linger well after Boehner is gone because of all the brown stuff he piled up in the stalls.

Thanks to Boehner and the Senate’s worthless Mitch McConnell, it’s Obama who will come out smelling like a rose.   The nation is on a collision course with the grim reaper over unrestrained spending and all the hard decisions have been put off until the next president takes office.

Does anyone seriously think that Paul Ryan’s hands are clean?  Boehner spent weeks begging Ryan to take the reins of the House.  If Ryan had put his foot down and said “No” to this deal it never would have happened?   Instead, Ryan blessed the deal by voting for it, along with all Democrats and a mere 78 of his Republican colleagues.   Continue reading “Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?” →

USA on Slavery’s Slippery Sloap

The average life of a democracy is 200 years.  Our country has outlived its expiration date largely because it is a democratic republic with a constitution that guarantees our citizens certain inalienable rights and a government with three co-equal branches, each with checks on the other two.

We are  now seeing those basic rights eroded by an aggressive Supreme Court.  We also are seeing those checks and balances upset by an equally aggressive president and a Congress that is reluctant to use the power at its disposal.

Furthermore, the financial stability of this nation has been undermined by our elected representatives who have learned that the best way to stay in office is by spending our money and doing favors for their supporters.

As a result, our economy is at a near standstill and we are mired in debt.  China is bullying us, but we owe so much to that communist country there is really nothing we can do about it.  This has to stop before it is too late because, as the Bible says, “The borrower is the slave to the lender.”

What is Democratic Socialism?

Bernie Sanders, a socialist, has achieved quite a following in the race for the Democratic nomination for president.  How many of his followers really know what he stands for?

There was a telling moment in the first Democratic presidential debate in which Anderson Cooper tried to pin him down. It took several tries but Cooper finally backed him into a corner when he said, “You don’t consider yourself a capitalist, though?”

Sander’s final answer to that simple question was, “No I don’t.”

Free Your Congressman from House Monarchy

Our republic dodged a bullet last week when, at the 11th hour, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced that he was removing himself from consideration for Speaker of the House.  His surprise announcement came after John Boehner had assembled all GOP House members to elect his replacement.

Speaker Boehner, who is supposed to retire at the end of the month, had rushed this election to ensure that McCarthy, his chief lieutenant, would succeed him.  However, when McCarthy bailed, Boehner asked for unanimous consent to postpone the vote.  Before anyone could object, he dismissed the caucus, leaving the two remaining candidates in the race, Rep. We Don’t Need a Boehner Clone

There’s an old saying that should be heeded by members of the House of Representatives:  “Things that are urgent are rarely important and things that are important are rarely urgent.”  So, when it comes to electing the next Speaker of the House — the  office 2nd in line to the presidency —  what’s the rush?

It’s a scheme to pave the way for John Boehner’s hand-picked successor, Kevin McCarthy, to take over the reins.

Clearly, the voters know that the problems we have in this country will never be solved by entrenched politicians.  That is why outsiders are leading the race for the GOP presidential nomination.  That is why House Majority Leader Eric Canter was dumped by the voters in his district in the last election.  That is why Boehner was forced to announce that he will resign at the end of the month.

Unfortunately, unless reason prevails and a major revolt occurs, the Republicans in the House will meet to select their nominee for Boehner’s replacement on Thursday in the Republican caucus.   The vote may already have occurred by the time you read this. The Case for Carson

From the very beginning, Ben Carson has been discounted by the political pundits.  As others in this crowded GOP field went up and down in the early polls, they watched in disbelief at how the support of a mild-mannered doctor who had never held political office, remained steady and began to climb.  After a so-so, if not poor performance in last debate, the chattering class wrote him off, but his polling numbers continued to climb.

When,  Dr. Carson pulled even with Donald Trump in the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, the story is not Carson’s rise but Trump’s fall.  If Carson is mentioned at all by these know-it-alls, they just roll their eyes.   Continue reading “The Case for Carson” →

The Titanium Lady

In the last GOP debate, there is a reason that Jeb Bush, searching for a suitable woman to put on the $10 bill, came up with Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan’s British partner in the Cold War.   It was Bush’s proximity to Carly Fiorina.

The former Hewlett Packard CEO just naturally causes one to think of Lady Thatcher who was the longest-serving British Prime Minister in the 20th century and the only woman to have attained that high office.

Some would say that Fiorina was channeling the ghost of Margaret Thatcher as she calmly laid out her vision for a United States that is capable of taking on Vladimer Putin, ISIS and the rest of the world if needed. Continue reading “The Titanium Lady” →
