Voters: Caught between a Democrat Rock and a Repubican Soft-Place

In the run-up to the November election President Obama rightfully said that he wasn’t on the ballot but his policies were.  Voters responded and sent a strong message against those policies by kicking out a large number of Democrat office holders and putting Republicans in control of Congress.

It wasn’t because Republicans had a strong message.  It was because the individual candidates running against those ousted Democrats all voiced their opposition to Obamacare and his illegal executive action granting amnesty to millions of alien lawbreakers.

Three months have passed since that message was sent and voters now find themselves caught between a Democrat rock and a Republican soft-place.   Democrats have no power, but when the issue of Obama’s amnesty came up in the Senate, they put up a united front to shield the president from having to veto a popular measure — the bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security sans funding for amnesty.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road (On Illegal Immigration)

This is the month the rubber will meet the road when it comes to illegal immigration.  Does the new Republican-controlled Congress mean what it says on this subject or is it all a political game?

This month we will find out if the Republican-controlled Senate will approve a radical left-wing ideologue as attorney general.  In testimony before the Judiciary Committee Loretta Lynch let it be known that she has no intention of enforcing our immigration laws.

This is also the month that we will find out if Congress will defund Obama’s illegal amnesty.

Make no mistake.  Republicans are in complete control  of Congress and they have the support of the overwhelming majority of the public on this issue, but will they hold the line on illegal immigration or will they cave in to political pressure from the White House and the Washington press corps?   Continue reading “Where the Rubber Meets the Road (On Illegal Immigration)” →

Can Boehner really be Dumped? (Yes! Here’s How)

Our system of government was designed to be run from the bottom up.  Our founding fathers wanted to be sure that we the people would have the final say in matters of great importance, not the president or congressional leaders, and certainly not the Supreme Court.

They also recognized that it was we the people who must have absolute control of the power of the purse, not the other way around.  That is why the Constitution mandates that all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives and that the members of that illustrious body must stand for re-election every other year.  They gave us the ability to rein in congressmen if they overstep their bounds.

To say that John Boehner has failed as Speaker of the House is to state the obvious.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to dump a sitting speaker.  As the old saying goes, “Power corrupts, and absolutely power corrupts absolutely.”  Congressional leaders have a lot of power and they do everything they can to maintain it.  That is why the current Congress holds the elections for party leadership positions for the next Congress before the new members are seated.  It’s all supposed to be a fait accompli but is it? If I were King for a Day

I have mixed emotions this time of year.  I love the holidays but I hate what our elected representatives do to us in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It’s the most dangerous time of the year.

While we are absorbed with the holidays, they are absorbed with seeing how much of our money they can spend or how many of their pet projects they can sneak through before they tiptoe out of town.

The Repubican-led House and the Democrat-controlled Senate are expected come together in a great kumbaya moment in the next few days to pass an omnibus (ominous is more like it) appropriation bill hashed out between congressional leaders behind closed doors.

It was released late Tuesday evening giving members only 48 hours to wade through the 1600 plus pages before the voting begins.  Although a few details have been publicized, it would take days to fully digest all the gory details.  It is wordy and purposefully difficult to understand, enough to challenge the most proficient Evelyn Wood’s graduate.  Continue reading “If I were King for a Day” →

“D-Day” for Republicans

“D-Day” is a military term used to denote the beginning of a combat mission.

There is a new D-Day coming.  Let’s call it “Decision Day for the United States.  It falls on December 11.  That is the day the GOP must decide if it will accept the mandate it was given by the American people to lead or if it will run up the white flag of surrender to an unpopular but stubborn president.

If you have been paying attention, then you know that this is the day the government runs out of money.  The timing is awful, two weeks before Christmas when most people are busy with the holidays and have checked out politically.

This timing is no accident.  The price of liberty really is eternal vigilance.  There can be no liberty without the ability to control a fair portion of what we earn which is slowly slipping away with each passing tax increase.  And don’t kid yourself, if we don’t get the nation’s spending under control, more hefty tax increases are coming.  It’s just a matter of time. Three Land Mines for Republicans

Now that Republicans have won the election war, the real work begins:  the cleanup.  As with any war, this is the tedious part.  In these next two years there are no more glorious battles to be won, just a lot of grunt work.  As with any war, dealing with the aftermath is difficult.  It requires  hard work, focus, commitment and, make no mistake, it is dangerous.

One of the biggest obstacles is land mines.  These are not real land mines that can physically kill you but if the GOP doesn’t disarm them, they can kill the party’s chance for a victory in 2016.

Why Women Are Easy Prey for Liberal Democrats

With President Obama as welcome on the campaign trail as brownies at a meeting of Weight Watchers, and his policies as popular as Bach at a bowling alley, Democrats can be forgiven for rolling out the old “war on women” thing.  After all, it’s their ace in the hole, a proven winner when it comes to stirring up the electorate and getting out the vote.

“Those mean old Republicans want to take away your birth control, keep your wages below that of your male counterparts,” and did I hear, “deny your right to vote”?  Surely that must be in there somewhere.

Can’t blame them because they have been sewing these bad seeds for so long, it’s little wonder they are hoping that some still will bear fruit.

You really can’t blame women for falling for this gambit.  It’s not that women are dumb or that few take the time to research these charges that are thrown about like so much confetti before every election.  It’s just that most women are simply doing their best to survive in what is fast becoming a socialist, feminist utopia.

To War or not to War?

That is the question for president Obama.  No doubt it is every bit as vexing as the one with which Prince Hamlet wrestled in the Shakespeare classic that bears his name.

In Hamlet’s famous soliloquy, he tries to decide if it would be better to commit suicide or struggle with the pains and unfairness of life.   His dilemma is not that far removed from the one facing our 44th president.  Obama’s choice is between political suicide or pubic ridicule.

Obama firmly believes that he was elected to avoid war at all cost, so much so, that he squandered our hard-fought victory in Iraq in order to declare peace, when there was no peace, and bring our troops home prematurely.  But, alas, our enemy metastasized.  It is slaughtering our friends in the region, openly beheading our citizens on the internet and threatening to spill blood in our streets.

Does Obama declare war on ISIS and take the necessary action to rid the world of this evil or does he simply invoke the Authorization for Use of Military Force given to his predecessor?

If he does the former, he would need permission from Congress, which likely would mean the political deaths of some dovish Democratic senators.  If he does the latter, he will be exposed as a hypocrite. Continue reading “To War or not to War?” →

Beware of Obamanesia

After months of presidential promises on an executive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens  (i.e. immigration reform), Obama punted.  In June, he put us all on notice that, when he returned from his August vacation, he would use his pen to do what Congress would not do.

A strange thing happened during those weeks of endless golf rounds on Martha’s Vineyard.  Public opinion polls tanked on the idea and Senate Democrats, worried about their reelections, began taking the president to task over his plan to by-pass Congress.

Last week, a Rasmussen poll found that 62 percent of likely voters are against the president’s proposed action.  Furthermore, 57 percent believe this action to be illegal.

The Border Crises in the U.S. and Israel

The border crises in the U.S. and Israel are not that complicated.  Draw on your parenting experience and follow me.

You have two siblings who are fighting.  The younger one is injured and comes running to you for help.  You punish the older child, but despite all your efforts at peace making, this scenario is repeated again and again until you finally discover that the younger one is the real aggressor.  He picks on his peaceful, larger brother until the older boy can stand it no longer and finally retaliates in an attempt to put an end to the conflict.  The younger brother’s reward is seeing his older brother punished.  And, yes, it is worth the occasional bloody nose.
