Dumbest Voting Idea Ever

I received an email from a well-meaning friend urging me to sign a petition on MoveOn.org’s website which he felt would encourage more people to vote and improve our government.

Call me suspicious. Anything provided by MoveOn is designed to do one thing: elect more radical left-leaning candidates to lead us into a socialist utopia where the enlightened elite will live like kings and lead the rest of us around like trained monkeys. Why I left the Democratic Party

Recently, I received an email from a former television colleague.  I’ll call him Jack (not his real name).  Jack lamented the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and invited me to read and post on his blog.  It had been years since we’ve had any direct contact, but I have great respect for this man.  Therefore, I went to Jack’s blog and began reading.  It sickened me, so much so that I was, for one of the few times in my life, speechless.

It was one of the worst biased political rants I have ever seen.

It began with a personal story.  As a young photographer, Jack covered a race riot in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he discovered that the local police chief had sent officers in blackface to stir up the rioters so he could crack down on them.  After that, the “chief” ran for Congress as a Republican and won.

I don’t doubt Jack’s veracity.  However, it was as if time has stood still for him.  Therefore, he believes all Republicans (and tea party members and other conservative-leaning organizations like the Heritage Foundation) to be racist. Continue reading “Why I left the Democratic Party”

A Christian Response to the Border Crisis

The current crisis at the border due to the influx of thousand of young people and some children has tugged at our heartstrings and rightfully so.

The U.S. is a welcoming country.  We grant permanent legal status to a million applicants a year and temporary visas to countless others as tourists, students or the much abused H-1B program where businesses import workers claiming they can’t find qualified U.S. citizens to fill their job requirements.  In addition, we admit thousands more as refugees fleeing persecution based on religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

Despite what you may have heard, the illegals crossing our southern border do not fall into the refugee category.  Most are from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.  The problems in these countries are nothing new.  All of these governments receive aid from the U.S. but they are inept and fraught with corruption. Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing

We have a crisis on our souther border.  President Obama’s solution is to ask Congress for $3.8 billion dollars to process and care for these children who are illegally crossing into our country at an unprecedented rate.  This, of course, would only be a down payment because, if these children aren’t immediately returned to their home country, thousands more will be on their way.

Meanwhile, Obama is flying the children, many of whom are sick and diseased, around the country and dumping them in selected communities without so much as a warning to local officials.

This must stop, not only for the good of the country, but for the welfare of these children!  Obama’s policy and lack of enforcement are causing poor Central American parents to put their children into the care of smugglers in hopes of using them as anchors into the United States.  Sadly, many of these young people are mistreated and raped along the way!   Continue reading “Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing”

The Yellow Dog Voter

There is a saying that originated in the southeastern portion of the United States that explains why this country is in decline:  “I’d vote for a yellow dog if he (or she) was a Democrat.”  The meaning is simple; no Republican is going to get my vote.  No way.  No how!

As the Democratic Party began moving left, away from the principles that were embraced by religious conservatives in the south, a blue dog coalition of more moderate Democrats was formed.  Although this group of lawmakers has attempted to show independence from its liberal leaders, the blue dogs essentially have been swimming upstream.

Unfortunately, Democrats don’t have a monopoly on the “yellow dog” intractable kind of voter.  If the truth be known, most voters have never read their party’s platform or know the issues that define it.  They blindly adopt the party label of their parents or have accepted a slogan or sound bite as absolute truth. Blood Moons, Death and Taxes

It may just be a coincidence that the first of the tetrad of blood moons  — four total solar eclipses that will occur every six months for the next eighteen —  fell on Passover, April 15, and those that follow also fall on major Jewish holy days.  Nevertheless, it has our attention.

A tetrad of blood moons is a rare phenomenon which has occurred only eight times in the last 2000 years.  These tetrads often occur around significant world-changing events.    A tetrad of blood moons occurred around Jewish holy days in A.D. 32 and 33 when Jesus was crucified.  The last tetrad occurred in 1967 during the Six-Day War. McConnell’s Ill-Timed “Fighting Words”

One thing coaches fear is a player with a loose tongue.  He may say something derogatory about an opposing team that can be used to gin up the opposition on the eve of a big game.  Over the years, these “fighting words” have inspired many weaker teams to prevail over stronger, cocky opponents.

Feeling his oats after a brief appearance before the Conservative Political Action Conference last week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) committed such a faux pas during an interview with The New York Times which was published Saturday.

McConnell and two other Republican senators with questionable conservative credentials are facing strong Tea Party-backed challengers in their primaries this year. McConnell simply could not hide his disdain.  “I think we are going to crush them everywhere,” he told the Times.  “I don’t think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.”    Continue reading “McConnell’s Ill-Timed “Fighting Words””

The Super Bowl vs State of the Union

Two topics dominate the news this week:  the Super Bowl and the president’s annual State of the Union address.

The Super Bowl is expected to draw some 111 million viewers; The State of the Union address was viewed by some 30 million.  The Super Bowl has no real impact on our lives while the state of our union is of upmost important to every citizen.  So why the disparity?

It’s simple:  The Super Bowl means something to the teams involved and to their respective fans.  There will be an end result:  a winner and a loser.  The State of the Union address and the response from the Republican Party, which controls the House of Representatives, is mere rhetoric, empty words.  To borrow from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, they are full of “sound and furry, signifying nothing.” Continue reading “The Super Bowl vs State of the Union”

Ten Best Conservative New Year’s Resolutions

Feeling a little guilty because you were caught up in the holiday rush and failed to make New Year’s resolutions?   It’s not too late.   January is a time to reassess, revitalize and invest in some worthwhile habits that will improve your life and the lives of those around you.

Many of my conservative friends tell me they have stopped watching the news.  It’s just too depressing.  With Obama as president, liberals in control of the Senate and Republican leaders in the House quaking in their boots, it looks as if the country will continue to decline as we complete the long, slow march toward socialism.  Can anything stop it?  Many conservatives have just given up.
