Supreme Court Trades Constitution for Crystal Ball

Last week’s back-to-back rulings on Obamacare and same-sex marriage shows just how far we have come from the government established by our founding fathers.  The checks and balances that have held this republic together for more than 200 years are gone!

The Constitution is no longer the instrument by which the legitimacy of all laws are judged.  It has been replaced by a crystal ball, in some cases, a justice’s personal opinion.

Justices Elena Kagan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg have publicly displayed their support for gay marriage.   Both have performed same-sex marriage ceremonies while this issue was making its way through the courts, yet ignored judicial precedent by failing to recuse themselves from Obergefell v. Hodges.

This court ruled that the very words in the laws that come under review now can be changed or simply ignored at the whim of a justice.  I offer the opinion of Chief Justice John Roberts in the ruling that upheld Obamacare. Continue reading “Supreme Court Trades Constitution for Crystal Ball”

Why John Kasich Scares Me Most

Okay, he’s not officially in the race, and in the early polls he’s near the bottom, but I predict one of the last Republican candidates standing in the race for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination will be Ohio Governor John Kasich.

First and foremost, in the last three decades, with one notable exception, voters have selected a president the way a seven-year-old selects a Barbie doll.  They pick the one with the prettiest face.  That’s why Hillary has undergone a complete makeover.

Republicans desperately want to win this one.  That being the case, this beauty contest favors Marco Rubio or John Kasich.  Both have boyish good looks.  Even though Kasich is 19 years older than the junior senator from Florida, he still has what it takes in looks and personality to charm the voters. Lessons from Denny Hastert (The real Scandal)

Former Speaker of the House Denny Hastert has been indicted for allegedly structuring bank withdrawals of $952,000 to evade bank reporting requirements and then making false statements to federal investigators.

According to various media outlets, quoting unnamed law enforcement sources, this was part of a $3.5 million “hush money” agreement he made in 2010 with a former student over some form of sexual misconduct more than three decades ago.

However, it’s the method Hastert used for the withdrawals and the coverup that landed him in hot water with the Feds, not his actions with the former student.

If these allegations are true, they would be despicable.  Any sexual contact between an adult and a minor is against the law (although it may not be prosecutable due to the statute of limitations).   The wrong would be compounded, whether or not the act was consensual, because, at the time of the alleged incident, Hastert was in a position of power and influence over the student.  People in positions of power are held to a higher standard — or they should be —such as a  doctor and a patient or a president of the United States and an INTERN.   Anyone remember Monica? Dr. Carson to Emergency. Nation on Life Support!

“Is there a doctor in the house?”

Once upon a time, that phrase was a common occurrence when there was a medical emergency at a public venue.  Today, most doctors are afraid to treat medical emergencies outside of a hospital for fear of being sued.  Our healthcare system, which represents one-sixth of our economy, is upside down and Obamacare made the situation worse.

This inept president has put our country in the ER and it is doubtful that the USA, with its $18 trillion debt and future obligations that can’t possibly be met, can survive in its present form.  The current condition is not entirely Obama’s fault.  Career politicians from both political parties are to blame for this chronic condition.  However, it is Obama who has pushed us into the critical  care area.    Continue reading “Dr. Carson to Emergency. The Clintons’ “Get Rich Quick” Schemes

When Bill Clinton became president, he had earned a maximum salary of $35,000 as governor of Arkansas and another $5,000 from honorariums from speaking fees.   His wife, Hillary, pulled down $92,000 as a rainmaker at the Rose Law Firm.   Somehow, despite their modest incomes, and her profit sharing at Rose, they managed to accumulate assets greater than $1 million, which was placed in a public trust.

How did they do it?  No one knows for sure.  There was that infamous $100,000 Hillary supposedly made on cattle futures (no political payoff there).

A Salute to a Modern Explorer

As a child, I was fascinated by stories of exploration.  I wanted to be an explorer.

My bubble burst when I discovered that most of the planet on which I lived had already been explored. The remaining parts were unfit for human habitation.

Little did I know that there were many unknown worlds too vast to imagine.

In recent years, the exploration that has had the most impact on the lives of average people is the Internet.  It has changed the way we communicate, work, shop, travel, educate, get our news, entertain ourselves and go to meetings.  It is hard to image life without it.  Yet, as late as 1993, the internet only accounted for one percent of the information flowing through our two-way telecommunications networks. The “Shred of Evidence” Against the Clintons

For all practical purposes the Clintons are a political team.  In the run-up to the 1992 presidential election, we were told we could “buy one, get one free.”  They would be “co-presidents.”

That line didn’t sit too well with the public so it eventually was dropped from the campaign.  Hillary took a more retiring role until Bill was elected.  However, once the deal was consummated with the American electorate, all that changed.  Hillary was the first first lady to move into the West Wing, where White House insiders have testified that she ruled this roost.

In his book, The Dysfunctional President, psychologist and historian Dr. Paul Fick made a compelling case that, when Hillary was away on a trip, no big decisions were made until she returned.  Bill simply couldn’t, or wouldn’t, function without her.  Through their triumphs and many scandals they often quarreled, but they never ceased to function as a united political machine.    Continue reading “The “Shred of Evidence” Against the Clintons”

Go ahead. Crown her Queen!

The British must be laughing at us.  We shake our heads and wonder why they have tolerated, if not worshipped, their royalty, while we, unofficially, do the same.

In England, the prime minister is burdened with the task of running the country.  He does the heavy lifting while the royals carry nothing at all.  They are coddled in luxury.  The queen is one of the richest people on earth, but the state supports her lavish lifestyle and that of the entire royal family.  It caters to their every whim.

Queen Elizabeth expects the “royal treatment,” much like our would-be queen, Hillary.

Most politicians are called by their surnames:  Governors Walker, Bush and Jindal; Senators  Cruz, Paul and Rubio; Dr. Carson; etc., but not Mrs. Clinton.  It is simply Hillary.  It’s on her campaign posters, buttons and signs.

Some believe it’s to separate herself from her husband.  She shunned his surname until it became necessary to hide her feminist leanings in order to help him regain the Arkansas governor’s mansion.  Once in the White House, it was Hillary Rodham-Clinton and now it is simply “Hillary.”

This is how it is done with the royals.  A monarch only uses his or her given name, as in Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, etc. Continue reading “Go ahead. Crown her Queen!”

Americans trapped in Yemen, Obama Does Nothing

The U.S. is no longer a world power to be respected by our friends and feared by by our enemies.  It is not that we don’t have the might to protect our borders or the ability to defend our allies and our interests abroad, its that we no longer have the will.

As the world watches in disbelief, we appear too weak to rescue our citizens trapped in Yemen, a war-torn country we abandoned shortly after Obama held it up as a counter terrorism success story.   Continue reading “Americans trapped in Yemen, Obama Does Nothing”

The Easter Battle

My soul was troubled as I entered the sanctuary last Sunday.  My country has turned its back on Israel.  Our president is working on a deal that will leave Iran just two weeks from having the deadliest weapon the world has ever known.  Meanwhile, that pariah nation is carving up the Middle East, along with other Islamic extremists while we do virtually nothing.  A regional war  seems inevitable, a war that could turn into WWIII.

It was if our pastor had read my mind.  His sermon was on war, more specifically, the most important battle ever fought.  It help me get things back into their proper perspective.

This battle was not between soldiers of opposing armies.  It occurred in a garden outside of Jerusalem.  It was a battle from within. Continue reading “The Easter Battle”
