Believing amnesty to be inevitable, a suggestion for a possible compromise surfaced this week that offers some hope to this dismal situation. It first appeared in a letter to President Bush from one of the rising stars of the conservative movement, Manuel Miranda of Families First on Immigration. The Minimum-Wage Charade
Democrats in the House of Representatives have an ambitious list of proposals they will try to ram through in their first 100 hours at the controls. While some are worthwhile, even laudable, others are counterproductive. However, the one proposal that is most likely to pass both houses of Congress and be signed into law by President Bush – raising the minimum wage – represents the worst kind of political pandering. The “Perfect” Christmas Gift
Are you caught between the shipping deadline for online sales and the mad dash at your local department store on the busiest shopping weekend of the year to complete your Christmas list?Wouldn’t it be nice if there were one “perfect” gift for everyone? That certainly would simplify matters. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone gave you the perfect Christmas gift? Continue reading “The “Perfect” Christmas Gift”
The Osama bin Laden Study Group
Instead of listening to advice from the has-beens on the Iraqi Study Group, Congress and the president would be better served to seek the counsel of the mastermind of the terrorists’ attacks against this country, Osama bin Laden. Why not go directly to the source of our trouble? It makes about as much sense as trying to negotiate with Iran and Syria! Continue reading “The Osama bin Laden Study Group”
Stars Who Could Lead the Constitution Party in 08
Recently, I was taken to task by Howard Phillips, the founder of the U.S. Taxpayer Party – now the Constitution Party – for an error I made in a column titled “What’s Wrong with the Two Party System?” In that column, I lamented the fact that, in the last election, I “threw away” two votes by voting for the American Independent because there was no way I could justify voting for either major-party candidate. (The American Independent Party is an affiliate of the Constitution Party in my state.)I incorrectly stated that the Constitution Party makes a “living for its leadership,” but does little else. I should have said “makes a living for its staff.” The leadership of the party takes no salary, and I want to make it clear that its dedicated staff – like most in the conservative movement – is underpaid. Bush Fired the Wrong Guy
Less than a week after the election, a leak from Karl Rove delivered a slap in the face to the Republican conservative base: Florida Sen. Mel Martinez, the co-author of the president’s bill to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, has been handpicked by the White House to be the new chairman of the Republican National Committee. The next day Bush made it official, although this choice still must be approved by state party leaders.Did Rove learn nothing from the Republican bloodbath? What about his boss?
The Martinez-Bush amnesty plan is as popular as horse droppings. Cow droppings make good fertilizer, but horse droppings are a poor substitute. They have to be broken up or they pile up and stink. Continue reading “Bush Fired the Wrong Guy”
What’s Wrong with the Two-Party System?
In this election, were you faced with a choice between a bad and a terrible candidate? This year, I did something I rarely do: I threw away two votes. In my state there are no conservative candidates in the Democrats Party, and I simply could not bring myself to vote for two godless Republican state candidates who have failed us. Therefore, I cast two votes for American Independent (Constitution Party in California) candidates, in protest.
When it came time to vote for Congress, the situation was not a lot better. I voted for the Republican candidate, who didn’t deserve it, to keep control of the House of Representatives in the hands of Republicans and give the party a chance to redeem itself.
So, what is wrong with the two party system? Nothing, that a little time and effort from average Americans can’t cure! Continue reading “What’s Wrong with the Two-Party System?”
The Hidden Agenda behind the Stem Cell Debate
It may provide a cure for cancer, brain tumors, diabetes, Cushing’s syndrome, infertility, hypertension, endometriosis, ulcers and even AIDS.
These bold claims were made in the late 1980s and early 1990s, not on behalf of embryonic stem cell research, but for the abortion pill RU-486 or Mifepristone. The left – more specifically the abortion/feminist lobby – boldly asserted that this deadly drug could be the cure for everything from ingrown toenails to aging, all for the purpose of getting our government to lift the import ban on the chemical abortion pill.
Funny thing, after the Clinton FDA approved RU-486 for abortions, we stopped hearing about the “possible” beneficial uses of the drug. For the record: Mifepristone has not completed clinical trials for any of these other uses. Continue reading “The Hidden Agenda behind the Stem Cell Debate”
Ms. Mistakes
Angry feminists are out waving wire coat hangers again. In its latest issue, Ms. Magazine has a picture of one bent into the shape of South Dakota. In November, residents of the Mount Rushmore state will vote on an initiative to remove a law that bans most abortions there. The wire coat hanger would be a much better symbol for the feminist brain, more air than substance.Ms. went trolling for women who had abortions, who were willing to come forward and say they are proud of their decisions. The magazine plans to send the list to legislative bodies across the nation and to the president. Continue reading “Ms. Mistakes”
Thanks Kim Jong-il
North Korea’s Kim Jong-il made a serious mistake in testing a nuclear weapon this week.I am not suggesting for one moment that the impotent United Nations finally will make good on one of its idle treats. Kim knows this is not going to happen.
What I am suggesting is that his timing was all wrong!
Ask yourself, which political party would Kim like to see in charge of the United States of America?
Would Kim prefer that the party in charge be the one that represents George W. Bush, the man who correctly labeled North Korea a charter member of the Axis of Evil? Would he prefer that the party in charge be the one that refuses to negotiate with terrorists or sit down one-on-one with a representative from his oppressed nation, or would he prefer to do business with the Democrats?
