How to Stop the Democratic Party’s Temper Tantrums

Never before have we witnessed such petty behavior by a losing party following a presidential election.  Traditionally, this is a time for the nation, led by our representatives in Washington, to come together in a spirt of bipartisanship and renew our efforts to work together to build a better, stronger and more prosperous country that works for every American.

It’s called the honeymoon period for good reason.  It is time to put aside the hurts leftover from the campaign in an effort to govern.   It is a time for a fresh start and new beginnings.  It is a time to put aside any differences that remain and help the new president get off to a good start for the sake of all concerned.

Instead, the Democrats, who were soundly defeated at every level of government, have staged a prolonged temper tantrum, playing the role of obstructionists at every turn.   Some 70 lawmakers refused to show up for the inauguration.  Then, they slow-walked the effort of Donald Trump to put his cabinet in place.   Most of Barack Obama’s Cabinet picks were approved by voice vote within a few days.  Did the Republicans like his choices or agree with their objectives?  Not at all, but they respected his right to select the team that would help him govern.

Now, many of those same Democratic congressmen and senators have decided to boycott President’s Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on the 28th of this month when he will lay out his vision for the country.   Continue reading “How to Stop the Democratic Party’s Temper Tantrums”

That Telemarketer on the Phone may be Your Congressman

There is a reason most people screen their telephone calls. Telemarketers.  Would it surprise you to know that the most aggressive bunch of telemarketers are the very people we have elected and sent to Washington, D.C., our very own representative and senators.

If you have made the mistake of donating to a political party or one of its offshoots like a congressional or senatorial committee, you know what I mean.   At first it may be flattering to get a call from one of these people inviting you to a “special event” or thanking you for your past support.   However, you can be sure that the primary reason for that call is to separate you from your money.

The phone calls never stop, even during working hours. Continue reading “That Telemarketer on the Phone may be Your Congressman”

Marco Rubio was Right

Marco Rubio was exactly right when he said Barack Obama knows “exactly what he’s doing.”  He may have repeated himself three times too many in the New Hampshire debate, but the point Rubio made to counter his GOP opponents’ attack on his inexperience was spot on.

This should in no way be taken as an endorsement for the junior senator from Florida.  I believe that there is a good chance Rubio will be the eventual nominee.  However, he lost me when he dismissed the anchor baby problem by sweeping it under the ambiguous 14th Amendment.

Nevertheless, Rubio is right about Barack Obama.  He is without a doubt the most transformational president since Ronald Reagan.    Continue reading “Marco Rubio was Right”

The Best News out of Iowa

The best news out of Iowa is not that Ted Cruz won or that Donald Trump’s political gamble of skipping the last debate, like a sulking child, likely cost him a win there.

It’s not that the long predicted surge of Marco Rubio finally happened.

No, the best news out of Iowa is that a candidate who had the courage to boldly proclaim his opposition to federal mandates and subsidies for ethanol — which comes from corn — the top crop in the state, actually won there.

Be it Ted Cruz or Joe Blow, it turned the conventional political wisdom on its head.  It proves that you don’t have to pander to get elected.  If you are willing to make the case that these government handouts keep you under the thumb of Washington and wind up hurting everyone, eventually enough reasonable people will listen. Obama Shills for Domestic Terrorists (Bypass Him and Defund Planned Parenthood Now!)

This week, Congress will present President Obama with a bill to fund the government through the remaining fiscal year and Obama will veto it.  Why?  Because the bill defunds the nation’s biggest domestic terrorist, Planned Parenthood, which mercilessly kills over 300,000 babies a year and sells their body parts.

Yes, Obama would rather shut down the government than cut off federal funds to one of the most immoral organizations on the planet.

Right on cue, USA Today published a poll conducted with Suffolk University to show that most Americans are opposed, 58% to 33%, to shutting off Planned Parenthood’s federal money spigot.  However, there are no links to give us a cue as to how this question was framed.  Surprise, Surprise! Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?

“It stinks!”  That was how incoming Speaker of the House Paul Ryan explained the back room deal hatched by outgoing Speaker John Boehner and Democrat leaders that raised the debt ceiling and put us on automatic pilot to the spending stratosphere through the rest of Obama’s term.

Boehner claimed he was “cleaning the barn” before Ryan took control of the House of Representatives but where is that smell coming from?  The entrance  to the place is spotless, but the bad odor will linger well after Boehner is gone because of all the brown stuff he piled up in the stalls.

Thanks to Boehner and the Senate’s worthless Mitch McConnell, it’s Obama who will come out smelling like a rose.   The nation is on a collision course with the grim reaper over unrestrained spending and all the hard decisions have been put off until the next president takes office.

Does anyone seriously think that Paul Ryan’s hands are clean?  Boehner spent weeks begging Ryan to take the reins of the House.  If Ryan had put his foot down and said “No” to this deal it never would have happened?   Instead, Ryan blessed the deal by voting for it, along with all Democrats and a mere 78 of his Republican colleagues.   Continue reading “Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?”

USA on Slavery’s Slippery Sloap

The average life of a democracy is 200 years.  Our country has outlived its expiration date largely because it is a democratic republic with a constitution that guarantees our citizens certain inalienable rights and a government with three co-equal branches, each with checks on the other two.

We are  now seeing those basic rights eroded by an aggressive Supreme Court.  We also are seeing those checks and balances upset by an equally aggressive president and a Congress that is reluctant to use the power at its disposal.

Furthermore, the financial stability of this nation has been undermined by our elected representatives who have learned that the best way to stay in office is by spending our money and doing favors for their supporters.

As a result, our economy is at a near standstill and we are mired in debt.  China is bullying us, but we owe so much to that communist country there is really nothing we can do about it.  This has to stop before it is too late because, as the Bible says, “The borrower is the slave to the lender.”

Just how far have we fallen down slavery’s slippery slope?   Continue reading “USA on Slavery’s Slippery Sloap”

Free Your Congressman from House Monarchy

Our republic dodged a bullet last week when, at the 11th hour, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced that he was removing himself from consideration for Speaker of the House.  His surprise announcement came after John Boehner had assembled all GOP House members to elect his replacement.

Speaker Boehner, who is supposed to retire at the end of the month, had rushed this election to ensure that McCarthy, his chief lieutenant, would succeed him.  However, when McCarthy bailed, Boehner asked for unanimous consent to postpone the vote.  Before anyone could object, he dismissed the caucus, leaving the two remaining candidates in the race, Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah and Daniel Webster of FL, twisting in the wind. Continue reading “Free Your Congressman from House Monarchy”

We Don’t Need a Boehner Clone

There’s an old saying that should be heeded by members of the House of Representatives:  “Things that are urgent are rarely important and things that are important are rarely urgent.”  So, when it comes to electing the next Speaker of the House — the  office 2nd in line to the presidency —  what’s the rush?

It’s a scheme to pave the way for John Boehner’s hand-picked successor, Kevin McCarthy, to take over the reins.

Clearly, the voters know that the problems we have in this country will never be solved by entrenched politicians.  That is why outsiders are leading the race for the GOP presidential nomination.  That is why House Majority Leader Eric Canter was dumped by the voters in his district in the last election.  That is why Boehner was forced to announce that he will resign at the end of the month.

Unfortunately, unless reason prevails and a major revolt occurs, the Republicans in the House will meet to select their nominee for Boehner’s replacement on Thursday in the Republican caucus.   The vote may already have occurred by the time you read this. The Titanium Lady

In the last GOP debate, there is a reason that Jeb Bush, searching for a suitable woman to put on the $10 bill, came up with Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan’s British partner in the Cold War.   It was Bush’s proximity to Carly Fiorina.

The former Hewlett Packard CEO just naturally causes one to think of Lady Thatcher who was the longest-serving British Prime Minister in the 20th century and the only woman to have attained that high office.

Some would say that Fiorina was channeling the ghost of Margaret Thatcher as she calmly laid out her vision for a United States that is capable of taking on Vladimer Putin, ISIS and the rest of the world if needed. Continue reading “The Titanium Lady”
