Election Crossroads: Socialism or Capitalism?

Our country is at a crossroads.  Never before have we faced such an obvious fork in the road.  One road, the one favored by politician Hillary Clinton and her Democratic colleagues, promises to lead us to a socialist utopia.  The other, favored by businessman Donald Trump and some of his Republican colleagues, promises to get us back on the road toward free-market capitalism.

It is no secret that most career politicians lean toward a socialist system.  In this system they control the lion’s share of our money and, in turn, hand out favors.  In this system, they make the major decisions that affect our lives.  As the government accumulates more and more power, we invariably end up with less.  Statistics show that the longer a politician stays in power, the more of our hard-earned money he or she spends.  Yet we keep electing the same people over and over and over again, expecting a different result.   Continue reading “Election Crossroads: Socialism or Capitalism?”

Women: Vote with Your Brains not Your Gentials

The cast of Orange is the New Black reached a new low (even for this disgusting sitcom) this week when it posed wearing “Vaginas Against Trump” T-shirts.  These shirts have been available on-line for $16.99 for over a year now.  Just an example of the class displayed by some Hillary supporters.   And she has the nerve to call Trump supporters “deplorable.”

For the record, I am sick about the choice we face in this election and I stand by all the previous columns I have written criticizing the now Republican nominee.  Nevertheless, it is the choice we face and voters are asked to choose between bad and worse.  We must choose between someone who has been a womanizer and someone who has enabled a womanizer who actually abused women while holding public office.  This is a far more serious offense, not only against these women, but against the offices he held and the public trust. Hillary Clinton Hypocrisy on the Wage Gap (The Democrats Political Unicorn)

I was having brunch with some new, very accomplished, female friends when the subject of the presidential race came up.  One of these friends announced that she was a Democrat because she believes in equality.

Women now control 51 percent of all wealth in the U.S.  They hold 52 percent of management and professional positions.  They earn more degrees of higher learning and own 30 percent of all private businesses.  Still, one of the key myths promoted every election cycle is the wag gap.  It’s the  political unicorn used to persuade millions of women that they are victims of inequality and they need Democrats like Hillary Clinton to save them.   Like the legendary horse from classical antiquity, it doesn’t exist.   Continue reading “Hillary Clinton Hypocrisy on the Wage Gap (The Democrats Political Unicorn)”

McConnell’s Groundhog Day

On Saturday, just after the nation learned that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had died, Senator Mitch McConnell opened his mouth and created a vacuum.

In the days that followed, volumes of words have been spoken and written about the majority leader’s short statement regarding the appropriate time to choose an individual to fill Scalia’s seat on the high court.   Some praised his resolve.  Others denounced him for trying to control the process set forth in the Constitution.

It has been a big waste of airtime and newsprint.  In short, the majority leader said nothing of substance.  He is full of so much hot air, we could package him and replace the National Helium Reserve.  Then he might serve a useful purpose. Continue reading “McConnell’s Groundhog Day”

Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?

“It stinks!”  That was how incoming Speaker of the House Paul Ryan explained the back room deal hatched by outgoing Speaker John Boehner and Democrat leaders that raised the debt ceiling and put us on automatic pilot to the spending stratosphere through the rest of Obama’s term.

Boehner claimed he was “cleaning the barn” before Ryan took control of the House of Representatives but where is that smell coming from?  The entrance  to the place is spotless, but the bad odor will linger well after Boehner is gone because of all the brown stuff he piled up in the stalls.

Thanks to Boehner and the Senate’s worthless Mitch McConnell, it’s Obama who will come out smelling like a rose.   The nation is on a collision course with the grim reaper over unrestrained spending and all the hard decisions have been put off until the next president takes office.

Does anyone seriously think that Paul Ryan’s hands are clean?  Boehner spent weeks begging Ryan to take the reins of the House.  If Ryan had put his foot down and said “No” to this deal it never would have happened?   Instead, Ryan blessed the deal by voting for it, along with all Democrats and a mere 78 of his Republican colleagues.   Continue reading “Boehner’s Gone: Who’s Crying Now?”

What is Democratic Socialism?

Bernie Sanders, a socialist, has achieved quite a following in the race for the Democratic nomination for president.  How many of his followers really know what he stands for?

There was a telling moment in the first Democratic presidential debate in which Anderson Cooper tried to pin him down. It took several tries but Cooper finally backed him into a corner when he said, “You don’t consider yourself a capitalist, though?”

Sander’s final answer to that simple question was, “No I don’t.”

Sanders calls himself a democratic socialist so what exactly is that? Continue reading “What is Democratic Socialism?”

Who’s Lying in the Senate?

On Friday, Ted Cruz created quite a stir went he broke protocol on the Senate floor and accused Mitch McConnell of lying.

If that is true, and it appears it is, we now know that the majority leader has a lot of company.  I will offer proof that all of the Democrats and about half of the Republicans are guilty of the same thing.

Have your senators talked about how they want to rein in corporate welfare and cut out all unnecessary spending?  Of course they have!  A procedural vote to allow the highway bill to move forward with an amendment that would reauthorize a little-known government agency, the Export-Import Bank, proves it.  http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&session=1&vote=00254

It also proves that there are far more Democrats infected with corporate greed than Republicans, but unfortunately the GOP Senate leader is among them.  McConnell made a big show of voting against allowing the amendment to advance.  However, he is the one who orchestrated the vote. His corporate donors got the message.  It’s hypocritical!

If you don’t know if your senators should be retained or not, this vote should make it abundantly clear.  McConnell, and every senator who voted “yea” is cheating on us.   They are robbing taxpayers to pay off their corporate cronies.

If you are not familiar with the Ex-Im Bank, you should be.  It’s Exhibit Number One when it comes to government waste. Continue reading “Who’s Lying in the Senate?”

Republicans Confront the Big Bad (Iranian) Wolf

Fairy tales are simple lessons for children of good versus evil.  The villain is easy to spot.  Often it’s a big bad wolf.

This week, frustrated Republicans, anxious to prove they are in control of Congress, penned a fairy tale of a letter and sent it to one of the world’s big bad wolves, the country of Iran.  Ostensively, the purpose of the letter was to put Iran’s leaders on notice that any deal they sign with President Barack Obama could expire the day he leaves office.  The real purpose  of the letter was to make us believe they are doing something.

It would be laughable if it were not so pathetic.   Continue reading “Republicans Confront the Big Bad (Iranian) Wolf”

Obama Surrenders to Iran; Boehner Surrenders to Obama

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave John Boehner a lesson in leadership by risking his political career to come here to address a joint session of Congress. In that speech, Netanyahu made a compelling case for our country standing up to Iran over nuclear weapons.

With the Israeli election just two weeks away, Netanyahu faced enormous pressure in Israel and here in the United States from those urging him to stay home. Nevertheless, he threw caution to the wind and used his time to lecture Barack Obama on the dangers of striking a dangerous deal with Iran which will allow that country to remain a hair’s breadth away from becoming a nuclear power and essentially get nothing in return.

Unfortunately, this lesson was lost on Boehner. Shortly after Netanyahu left the House Chamber, Boehner offered his unconditional surrender to Barack Obama over his illegal amnesty and, in return, got nothing, nada, zilch! Continue reading “Obama Surrenders to Iran; Boehner Surrenders to Obama”

McConnell to Newbies: Drop Dead!

There are twelve new faces in the Republican Senate caucus this year.  Each won a hard-fought victory.

They all made big promises on the road to Washington which they expected to keep.

Without exception, all made definitive statements on the problem of illegal immigration and the president’s plan to create amnesty for millions with the stroke of his pen.   This is a good time to review some of the statements made before and immediately after their elections:

Shelly Capito (R-W.V.) “The president does not have the constitutional authority to grant amnesty to millions of people who have broken the law by entering our country illegally. President Obama’s executive action on immigration is wrong and violates the responsibility of Congress to write and pass laws as outlined in our Constitution. (Facebook posting December 4, 2014)

Bill Cassidy (R-La.) “We must stop Obama … As your senator, I will fight his amnesty plan. Your tax dollars should benefit you, not those here illegally.”  (On-line campaign ad) Continue reading “McConnell to Newbies: Drop Dead!”
