No Tears for Mandela

Every generation needs heroes.  However the elevation of Nelson Mandela to sainthood  by an adoring world is not only wrong, it is a slap in the face to all those who suffered irreparable loss directly by his hands or by the hands of African National Congress/South African Communist Party mobs.

Mandela denied any involvement in the Soviet-backed SACP, which is tantamount to denying that his hands were not part of his body.  There are numerous pictures of Mandela by the side of SACP leader Joe Slovo underneath the hammer and sickle, hands raised, giving the communist clinched-fist salute  http:/theconservativemonster.com/?

Mandela was one of the people who helped transform the ANC from an organization dedicated to bringing about reform through peaceful political means into one committed to the violent overthrow of the government.

Mandela was charismatic and adept at political expediency, often doing what was right, but often doing what most certainly was wrong. Continue reading “No Tears for Mandela”

D-Day for Parental Rights

In the military, “D-Day” is the coded designation of an important invasion or military operation.  The term also has been used to mark the timing for a landmark event or decision.

Such a day is coming for a homeschooling family, the Romeikes, who fled religious persecution in Germany five years ago and are fighting to remain in this country.   It is also a D-Day for the protection of individual rights of every U.S. citizen

The clock now is ticking for the Romeikes and for the Obama Administration which has been ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court to respond to a petition by the Home School Legal Defense Association to hear an appeal in the Romeikes’ deportation case.  The deadline is December 19. Thanksgiving: What’s Missing

The holiday table is prepared for the annual feast.  There is turkey, stuffing, hot rolls and pumpkin pie, but something is missing.

The holiday spirit has taken a dive.  The abundance of food on the table is in sharp contrast to the condition of our country.   We are in debt up to our eyeballs to the communist Chinese.  The economy is stagnant and there is no relief in sight.  Unemployment is high along with the price of energy and every other necessity.  The promised health care reform has proved to be a sham, leaving us worse off than before.

The once powerful United States of America has become a paper tiger in the eyes of the world.  We are no longer respected, admired or feared.  What is to become of us?

Despair and uncertainty has griped the nation.  Not since Jimmy Carter, in 1979, has the country suffered such malaise.   As we prepare to celebrate with family and friends, we are searching for something, anything, to lift us out of this downward spiral.   Continue reading “Thanksgiving: What’s Missing”

What Women Want

In the 2000 comedy, “What Women Want,” Helen Hunt sent Mel Gibson home with a basket of feminine products to try in an effort to gain insight on how to design a successful ad campaign.

Makes sense:  The hand that rocks the cradle still rules the world.

The fairer sex does not hold a majority in Congress.  We do not hold the majority of seats in the boardrooms of this country but, make no mistake, we control finance.  It is well understood that women balance most of the checkbooks and buy most of the products sold in this country.  We also influence elections.

That’s why political operatives stay up late into the night trying to figure us out.   Unfortunately, most are sidetracked by a known-it-all group of angry feminists who claim to speak for the rest of us. Continue reading “What Women Want”

Leno Gets a Lesson in Cruz Control

Jay Leno is a car aficionado.  He collects them. He knows them.  He works on them and delights in driving them.

However, Friday night the junior senator from Texas gave the late night comic a lesson on one option he may have missed, Cruz control.

I am a big Leno fan.  I’m rarely up that late but I tape his shows and watch his opening monologue the next night for laughs.

His political jokes are sometimes over the top, but, for the most part, they accurately reflect what is going on in Washington and give us some much-needed comedy relief.  His barbs are often cleaver and insightful.

Another thing I appreciate about Leno is that he picks on everyone, Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians.  It makes no difference. Continue reading “Leno Gets a Lesson in Cruz Control”

NFL Mimics ObamaCare (Shaking Down the Rookies)

When I first saw the headline “Miami Dolphin Players forcing Rookies to buy them Expensive Items,” I thought it was some cleaver columnist making a comparison to ObamaCare.  It had to be a parody!

I spent 17 years as a sportscaster, 10 of them in Miami.  During my tenure, I watched Don Shula and Bobby Beathard build the 1972 “perfect team.”

I — or one of my colleagues — was there for every practice.  I ate lunch with the team.   I was there for every game.  I knew each player personally.

I  know how hard it is to make a team and even harder to remain on one.   Continue reading “NFL Mimics ObamaCare (Shaking Down the Rookies)”

Obamacare Challenge: Convincing the Invincibles

Young adults have been the most enthusiastic Obama supporters.  They identify with his youthful appearance.  They like his personality, his style and his confidence.  They liked his catchy campaign slogan:  “hope and change.”   After all, everyone needs hope.  As for the change, few could tell you what that change actually meant, but what the heck. It didn’t seem to matter.

In 2008, Generation Y turned out in droves to elect this charismatic man president and again, in 2012, though in somewhat lessor numbers.

Therefore, Obama just assumed he could lead these Millennials down the garden path to his health care exchanges.  It was, in fact, a given that our young people would sign up for Obamacare.  It will not work without their participation.  They must participate or else . . .  Or else what?   Continue reading “Obamacare Challenge: Convincing the Invincibles”

Washington Redskins: What’s in a Name?

The language police have been out in force in recent months.  The target du jour is the NFL team that resides in the nation’s capitol.  They are trying to force the owner of that illustrious franchise to ditch the team’s 80-year-old mascot.

Some, a precious few as it turns out, believe the word “Redskins” to be a slur.

Barack Obama, who never misses an opportunity to right every perceived racial wrong, didn’t help by wading into the matter recently and ginning up the controversy.

Let’s face it.  Some people with way too much time on their hands can get offended by a ham sandwich!   The fact that the overwhelming majority of Native Americas aren’t offended by the term, and are proud that this team chose to highlight the positive attributes of their heritage, ought to count for something.

Such was the case when a few uptight feminists, with their panties in a twist, began insisting we rid our speech of words like “Miss, Mrs., Mistress, Madam,” “lady” and “ma’ am” as in “Yes ma’ am.”   What generally is considered to be polite forms of address is offensive to the NOW crowd.  They want to be referred to as “women” or individually as a “woman” and will accept no substitutes. What the Polls are REALLY telling us about the Shutdown

Woe to the GOP!  Beware of a government shutdown!  You will be blamed and if you persist in challenging the president.  You will lose control of the House of Representatives and kill any chance of regaining control of the Senate!

These “world will come to an end” warnings were issued by the Republican establishment and  often repeated by timid GOP elected representatives who fear — above all else — being thrown out of office and having to get real jobs like the rest of us poor saps who pay their salaries.

Who can blame them?

In the USA they helped to create, jobs are hard to come by and even harder to maintain.

Now, the party establishment and their echo chorus in Congress are gleefully pointing to the latest Washington Post/ ABC News poll that shows that 74 percent of the American people are unhappy with the way they are handling these negotiations and saying, “I told you so!”

Not so fast.  Continue reading “What the Polls are REALLY telling us about the Shutdown”

Hillary Clinton’s Soft Underbelly

President Hillary in 2016?  While some see this as inevitable, color me skeptical.

Hillary has a soft underbelly of supporting Marxist groups and sympathizers. A part of that underbelly was exposed last week when she endorsed Bill de Blasio for New York City mayor.  The Democrat nominee is considered the odds on favorite for the top spot in the Big Apple.  The former First Lady rarely gives her endorsement so this one is curious indeed.

Why did she go the extra mile and give this man her stamp of approval? Continue reading “Hillary Clinton’s Soft Underbelly”
