President’s Trump’s remarks to the nation on Saturday during the violence that occurred in Charlottesville, Va., were meant to calm the nation. They were thoughtful, measured and on target. The fact that his remarks were criticized by the radical left is not new. There is nothing this president has ever said or done — or could ever do —short of sacrificing his children before a statue of Maxine Waters that would appease this group. They deal in unfounded acquisitions, name-calling and demagoguery.

The fact that Trump was criticized by so many in his own party, however, is regrettable. It shows these people to be spineless sycophants who would do anything to protect their backsides, keep the boat of political correctness afloat or grab a little media attention. Others, like The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, have hitched their wagons to the never-Trump crusade and are hopelessly stuck in that mode and now corporate CEO’s are pandering.

Nevertheless, those who have criticized the president for not initially calling out specific persons or groups while Charlottesville and state police were still working to disperse the crowd and assess what went wrong, should hang their heads in shame. Were there white supremacists and other misguided, disaffected groups among the organizers of the “Unite the Right” event called to protest the removal of the statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee? Yes. Were there militant and undesirable groups among the organizers of the anti-protest? Yes, and these two groups clashed before the event even began causing the governor to declare a state of emergency, but who was to blame for the violence?

Were all those who gathered in Charlottesville bad people? No. Many were simply dismayed that some of our history is being unceremoniously destroyed. Others believe that honoring anyone who fought on the side of the Confederacy is an affront to society.

Given the history of Black Lives Matter and the recent violence perpetrated by Antifa that turned some of our college campuses into war zones, our president was absolutely right to show restraint. He should be applauded, but instead he has been soundly criticized.

What exactly did the president say that was so offensive?

We’re closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama, this has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America. What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent lives.

Trump went on to remind us of this important truth:

(N)o matter our color, creed, religion or political party, we are all Americans first. We love our country. We love our God. We love our flag. We’re proud of our country. We’re proud of who we are, so we want to get the situation straightened out in Charlottesville, and we want to study it. And we want to see what we’re doing wrong as a country where things like this can happen…

What was so wrong about those statements? He called on the country to come together as one. It’s as simple as that.

On Monday, Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas, Jr. did his best to correctly chronicle the events that led to the tragedy. Thomas stated that the problem began with “mutually combatant protestors” confronting each other. In other words, groups or individuals on both sides.

All of us remember how Barack Obama was quick to jump to conclusions and assign blame. One unfortunate incident resulted in a “beer summit” at the White House for one of the unjustly accused. Make no mistake, I, like Donald Trump, think that David Duke is a reprehensible individual, but what if Trump had unjustly accused him? Yes, even that would have been a mistake. It simply would have been wrong to point the finger at any one individual or any group at that time.

Now I could point out how the media never seems to single out or speak ill of anyone or any group on the left that incites racial discord and, yes, even violence. The cable networks have given some of the worst offenders platforms and some of these individuals their own shows.

As a country, we need to get a grip and put an end to this reactionary piling on. Name-calling and the baseless accusations against Trump and some of his staff in the White House serves no useful purpose and further divides us. It needs to stop!

The Memorial Day weekend was marred by the news that North Korea fired off another missile and it had landed within a few meters of its intended target, This was followed by more threats directed at the United States from its deranged dictator Kim Jong Un.

This followed two successful tests of medium to long-range missiles by the rogue state in as many weeks and a simultaneous launch of four missiles on March 6, three of which fell close to Japan, a nation we are bound to protect.

Such launches, and two nuclear tests since January 2016, have been conducted in defiance of U.S. pressure, U.N. resolutions and the threat of more sanctions, which amounted to little more than sending the rebellious, bellicose young leader to bed without dessert. Independent Counsel? Where’s the Crime?

There are growing calls for an independent counsel or prosecutor to investigate the Trump-Russia connection in the 2016 presidential election. Everyone, it seems, has in interest in one.

For the media it is more fuel to feed the 24-hour news cycle.

For Democrats, it keeps the idea alive that something beyond their control caused their candidate to lose. It couldn’t be because Hillary Clinton was deeply flawed, universally disliked, and couldn’t be trusted. It couldn’t be that their message of higher taxes, bigger government and gender-neutral restrooms just fell flat. It had to be something more sinister.

Cleaning out the Rats in Government

This week my husband smelled a foul odor in the area around his vintage sports car which he keeps under raps in our garage. He removed the cover and lifted the hood to discover a big fat rat with a nest full of babies. There is no telling how much damage could have been done if he had not made that discovery and quickly dealt with the problem.

However, this was nothing like the rat we discovered in the California state legislature when it was revealed that Republican Sen. Anthony Cannella of Ceres provided the margin of victory needed by Democrats to pass a $5.2 billion dollar tax increase, ostensibly to repair the states road and bridges. This included a gasoline tax hike of 12 cents a gallon which hurts poor and middle class working commuters. It will give California the 2nd highest gas tax in the nation and likely the highest price at the pump due to California’s distance from the major refineries and a requirement by state air regulators that further increases the cost of gasoline for our state.

For his vote, Cannella, the rat, received a half billion payoff for projects in his district that have nothing to do with fixing potholes. Nuclear Option? Call It Constitutional Option

Indeed they do and the most important factor to consider in electing a president of the United States is what kind of justices will he or she appoint to the Supreme Court? While a president can serve for a mere eight years, a Supreme Court justice holds that job for life (or as long as he or she can sit on the bench without nodding off).

Will the high court consist of justices who will faithfully decide cases based on the Constitution alone (preferred by conservative Republicans) or should the high court be made up of justices who see the Constitution as a “living instrument” that can be changed on a whim (preferred by liberal Democrats)? Flynn’s Dismissal Highlights the Difference Between Obama and Trump

Donald Trump lost a valuable member of his team when Michael Flynn was forced to fall on his sword and resign as his national security advisor. Flynn’s crime had nothing to do with the Russians, but his failure to tell the truth about his December conversation with Sergey Kislyak.

One can appreciate Flynn’s hesitancy to tell (then) Vice-president Elect Mike Pence that he had discussed the sanctions Obama had recently imposed on Russia with the Kremlin Ambassador. It wasn’t illegal. In fact, it was to be expected that Flynn would be laying the groundwork for what lies ahead. However, in light of all the accusations about Russia’s attempt to skew our election in favor of Trump, Flynn probably wanted to avoid throwing unnecessary fuel on that media-fanned fire.

Does anyone remember that cosy little conversation Barack Obama had in March of 2012 with outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the global nuclear security summit in Seoul, South Korea? Obama was caught on tape asking Medvedev to ask his successor, Vladimir Putin, to give hims “space” until after the November election when he would have more flexibility to deal with thorny issues like missile defense. How to Stop the Democrat Party’s Temper Tantrums

Never before have we witnessed such petty behavior by a losing party following a presidential election. Traditionally, this is a time for the nation, led by our representatives in Washington, to come together in a spirt of bipartisanship and renew our efforts to work together to build a better, stronger and more prosperous country that works for every American.

It’s called the honeymoon period for good reason. It is time to put aside the hurts leftover from the campaign in an effort to govern. It is a time for a fresh start and new beginnings. It is a time to put aside any differences that remain and help the new president get off to a good start for the sake of all concerned.

Instead, the Democrats, who were soundly defeated at every level of government, have staged a prolonged temper tantrum, playing the role of obstructionists at every turn. Some 70 lawmakers refused to show up for the inauguration. Then, they slow-walked the effort of Donald Trump to put his cabinet in place. Most of Barack Obama’s Cabinet picks were approved by voice vote within a few days. Did the Republicans like his choices or agree with their objectives? Not at all, but they respected his right to select the team that would help him govern.

Now, many of those same Democratic congressmen and senators have decided to boycott President’s Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on the 28th of this month when he will lay out his vision for the country. What can they possibly hope to gain for their constituents by burning the bridges of communication? Why are they fanning the flames of disappointment and discontent?

The Democrats Terrible, Tumultuous Temper Tantrums

The hallmark of democratic governments is the smooth transition of power from one duly elected leader and duly elected legislature to the next. Never before in our history have we seen an outgoing president and the leaders of his losing political party so hellbent on tripping up those who will succeed them.

Obama set the stage by inviting the president-elect to the White House for a friendly chat and then snatching the welcome matt right from under his feet as he was leaving the White House.

After jetting off to Hawaii for another luxury vacation, costing taxpayer millions of $$$ ( http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/dec/22/obamas-hawaii-christmas-vacations-cost-taxpayers-3/), it became obvious that Obama left land mines for his successor, hoping they will blow up during some portion of Trump’s initial stay in the White House. Between rounds of golf, he gave orders to throw Israel under the bus at the United Nations. He expelled 35 Russian diplomats. He used an arcane statue to block oil drilling in much of the Arctic and portions of the Atlantic Ocean in an obvious attempt to keep Trump from making good on his promise to use all available fuel reserves and take actions to allow more off-shore drilling. He used another arcane statue to grab 1.6 million acres of valuable land in Utah and Nevada, two states that helped put Trump over the top.
