The Border Crises in the U.S. and Israel

The border crises in the U.S. and Israel are not that complicated.  Draw on your parenting experience and follow me.

You have two siblings who are fighting.  The younger one is injured and comes running to you for help.  You punish the older child, but despite all your efforts at peace making, this scenario is repeated again and again until you finally discover that the younger one is the real aggressor.  He picks on his peaceful, larger brother until the older boy can stand it no longer and finally retaliates in an attempt to put an end to the conflict.  The younger brother’s reward is seeing his older brother punished.  And, yes, it is worth the occasional bloody nose.

The problem is solved when the younger one is finally held accountable and punished for his misdeeds.   Continue reading “The Border Crises in the U.S. and Israel”

A Billion Reasons to Stop Illegal Immigration Now

President Obama has requested $3.7 billion dollars to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants crossing our borders, many of them minors.  It is no secret that this administration has, in fact, put out the welcome mat by refusing to enforce many of our immigration laws and ignoring others.

The president has all the authority he needs to send these people home immediately.  The William Wilberforce Act, which Obama has used as an excuse to allow this crisis to continue, has a provision that allows him to limit its application in “exceptional circumstances.”  If this isn’t an exceptional circumstance, I would hate to see one. Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing

We have a crisis on our souther border.  President Obama’s solution is to ask Congress for $3.8 billion dollars to process and care for these children who are illegally crossing into our country at an unprecedented rate.  This, of course, would only be a down payment because, if these children aren’t immediately returned to their home country, thousands more will be on their way.

Meanwhile, Obama is flying the children, many of whom are sick and diseased, around the country and dumping them in selected communities without so much as a warning to local officials.

This must stop, not only for the good of the country, but for the welfare of these children!  Obama’s policy and lack of enforcement are causing poor Central American parents to put their children into the care of smugglers in hopes of using them as anchors into the United States.  Sadly, many of these young people are mistreated and raped along the way!   Continue reading “Real Immigration Reform: What’s Missing”

Obamacare’s Contraceptive Mandate (The dirty little Secret)

Democratic operatives and radical feminist groups have been hyperventilating since Monday’s  Supreme Court decision which allows Hobby Lobby to exclude some contraceptives from its insurance coverage.   It was much ado about nothing.  Burwell v. Hobby Lobby was a  small victory for common sense, but it was a narrowly written opinion that will have no effect on women’s health and little effect on Obamacare’s burdensome regulations.

Hobby Lobby already provides health care coverage to its employees, which includes 16 different types of contraceptives.  The Green family that owns Hobby Lobby only objected to the four birth control methods that are abortifacients:  morning after pills and IUD’s.  In addition to providing generous health care and dental coverage, the company offers a retirement savings plan, Sunday’s off and its base pay is almost twice the minimum wage.

That said, if a Hobby Lobby employee wants the morning after pill she can go to the local pharmacy and pay for it and still come out ahead of most women who are employed by similar retailers.  That why there will be no mass exodus of Hobby Lobby’s female employees.   Continue reading “Obamacare’s Contraceptive Mandate (The dirty little Secret)”

Nero Fiddled; Obama Putts Around

The Emperor Nero may have gotten a bum rap.  It is believed this ancient leader fiddled while a great fire burned his Rome to the ground in A.D. 64, but the fiddle, or violin, hadn’t been invented yet.  Nevertheless, Nero did consider himself a serious musician.  Most likely the fiddling was simply a metaphor for his bad judgement, insensitivity and ineffectiveness.

Obama showed some of these same traits last weekend when he jetted to southern California for a commencement address, which was an excuse to spend a long weekend playing golf at two exclusive resorts in Palm Springs, barely squeezing in a fundraiser.

Now I don’t resent the president taking a little me-time or using his taxpayer-funded high-priced transportation to have a little fun, but if ever there was a time to stay in the White House Situation Room, this was it.   Continue reading “Nero Fiddled; Obama Putts Around”

The Kitchen Gestapo

The verdict is in:  Michelle Obama’s school lunch program is about as popular and cost-effective as her husband’s “unAffordable Care Act”  and much more wasteful.

Doubtful?  Just look in the garbage cans at your local public school cafeteria.  A new report from the General Accounting Office confirms that the new standards for the school lunch championed by the first lady have not only been a nightmare for officials responsible for planning the menus and sourcing the food, but they have resulted in higher costs and much more waste.

In short:  students won’t eat the food.  Contrary to the popular belief perpetrated by liberals promoting the nanny state, hunger is not a problem in the United States.  Those who have spent time in third world countries where it is will tell you that hungry children will eat anything that is put before them. Bundy, Sterling and Kerry: A Trio of Fools

Over this past week, the news has been dominated by a series of inappropriate, racist remarks.

First, there was Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who had achieved near rock star status by standing up to the feds over burdensome grazing fees.  After drawing support from militia groups to the halls of Congress, the rancher was overcome with his new-found popularity and sense of self-importance.  When he held a press conference and suggested that black Americans were better off as slaves than under our present welfare system, his supporters fled like cockroaches exposed to the light.

Then, along came Donald Sterling, the cavorting owner of the Los Angeles Clippers who was caught on tape, allegedly asking a girlfriend not to bring blacks to the games or post pictures with them on Facebook.  Sterling was quickly condemned by President Barack Obama and Clipper sponsors begin pulling their ads.

Bundy (once) was enjoying his five minutes of fame and in the process showed his prejudice.  He rightfully suffered public scorn and his cause (too much federal control over too much public land) regrettably is lost.

Sterling, who is no angel, may or may not be guilty of his alleged crime but he has been banished from the NBA and has been ordered to sell his team.

Put it in perspective:  These are simply two old codgers caught in a time warp.  No matter how hard we try, we never will eliminate the last racist or sexist thought.  It is impossible.   Continue reading “Bundy, Sterling and Kerry: A Trio of Fools”

The Hot and Cold War

Russia’s President Vladimer Putin is hot, red hot.

United States’ president Brack Obama is cold, stone cold.

After Russia’s takeover of Crimea, Putin is more popular than ever in the motherland.  After Obama’s capitulation, his poll numbers are at an all-time low.

The buff, bare-chested Putin, a former martial arts master and K.G.B. colonel, has attained rock-star status. Meanwhile, his lanky American counterpart, the former community organizer and pick-up basketball player, looks weak and strangely out of place in a world where the strong survive and the weak get trampled.

If this were bowling, Putin just had a 300 game, while his opponent rolled nothing but gutter balls.  If it were baseball, Putin pitched a perfect game while Obama struck out.   Continue reading “The Hot and Cold War”

Republicans more Fun than Democrats

In a recent New York magazine interview, Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels revealed an interesting fact that gives us some insight as to why late night TV hosts are more likely to demean Republicans than Democrats.  “Republicans are easier for us than Democrats,” said Michaels.  “Democrats tend to take it personally; Republicans think it’s funny.”

In other words, Democrats have no sense of humor.  They take themselves much too seriously while Republicans can laugh at themselves. Continue reading “Republicans more Fun than Democrats”

When the Going gets Tough (The Tough get out of Town)

To say that President Obama is unpopular these days is like saying the weather changes or garbage smells. It’s obvious.

Instead of garbage, it’s Obamacare that is stinking up the place and no amount of running away from the problem or burning 25,000 gallons of jet fuel can escape this disaster.  Nevertheless Obama put 3,000 miles between himself and Washington, D.C., over the long President’s Day weekend traveling to my state of  California on the eve of the fifth anniversary of his second biggest achievement, the Obama stimulus.

Did I mention that one smells too?    Continue reading “When the Going gets Tough (The Tough get out of Town)”
