It Stinks! (The Case Against Hillary Clinton

When you open the refrigerator and it stinks, you know something is rotten in there.  Likewise, when the FBI failed to recommend that Hillary Clinton be prosecuted, you know something is rotten in our government.

If you still think the FBI and the Justice Department are independent from the White House and political pressure as they were designed to be, either you just crawled out from under a rock or you are hopelessly naive.

Days before the FBI made its findings public, Obama announced that he was endorsing Hillary Clinton to be his successor.  In fact, he was getting ready to board Air Force One with her to begin campaigning in North Carolina as the FBI press conference began.

Now I asked you, would Obama have made that announcement and made plans to join her campaign if he had not been assured that she would be cleared of criminal wrongdoing?  Would he have risked having such a blemish on his record for the sake of a few days?   Continue reading “It Stinks! Abolish the Department of Education (No Excuse for Allowing the DOEd to Continue)

Oh, how I long for someone with the wisdom and clarity of Ronald Reagan.   One of his campaign promises was to abolish the federal Department of Education.  He failed, but not for lack of trying.  The Department of Education survived only because Democrats had a lock on the House of Representatives.

Nevertheless, Reagan cut the budget significantly and scaled back its functions.  On one trip to the DOEd during the Reagan years, I asked an employee about her job.  She said, matter-of-factly, “I am going through every regulation issued by the Department and cutting out anything that is not ‘family friendly.’”  Needless to say, it was a full-time endeavor.

If “The Gipper” were alive today one can only imagine the reaction he would have to the DOEd’s letter issued to schools last month telling them that federal law requires them to allow students to use restrooms and locker rooms “consistent with their gender identity.”  The letter, issued in the form of a guideline, does not carry the force of law, but it carries this implied threat:  Do this or risk losing federal funds.

Isn’t it past time we freed public schools and colleges from the tyranny of the federal government?  Why send a dollar to Washington and have it funneled through several layers of this behemoth bureaucracy, only to get back a few cents, along with a boatload of regulations? The Donald vs. The Governor

You are all familiar with the term “sore loser.”  Last week in New Mexico, Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, took aim at the state’s popular Latina governor, Susana Martinez, and showed us what a “sore winner” looks like.

The reality television star just can’t seem to leave well enough alone.   He attempted to bully Susana Martinez into jumping on board his campaign bandwagon.  Yes, his relentless attacks against political rivals and party leaders have worked in the past.  Last weekend “Little Marco” released his delegates to vote for Trump.  Earlier, Ben Carson the “okay doctor;” Chris Christie, the brunt of his fat jokes; along with Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Rand Paul, Scott Walker and Bobby Jindal have all decided to forgive and forget in order to hitch a ride on the Trump train which appears headed to the White House with its load of political malcontents.

My guess is that this low ball tactic won’t work with Martinez, who would have made an excellent running mate for Trump.  Martinez has had more than her share of insults as she swam upstream in a heavily blue state to the very top spot.   Furthermore, blaming Governor Martinez for New Mexico’s problems is tantamount to blaming the problems in Calcutta on the late Mother Theresa. Trump’s Almost Perfect Running Mate

Dr. Ben Carson, the man Donald Trump put in charge of his search for a running mate, has confirmed that Trump now has “the list.”

One name, who must be on that list is head and shoulders, figuratively not literally, above the rest.

You can scratch Chris Christie, John Kasich and Newt Gingrich, three of the names that have been bantered about most often.  The last thing the real estate mogul needs is another aging white guy on the ticket.

Trump has indicated that he would like to choose someone with political experience.   He would be wise to pick a person who is political savvy, but who is not tainted with the smell of the hated Washington establishment.  He would be wiser still to pick someone who could appeal to the very voters with whom he is weakest: women and Hispanics.   Continue reading “Trump’s Almost Perfect Running Mate”

Ted Cruz’s Barbie Doll Problem

On paper, Ted Cruz should be the hands-down favorite to be the Republican nominee for president.  He should be able to unite the party, bring in Reagan Democrats and win this election by a landslide.

Cruz satisfies the electorate’s desire for an antiestablishment candidate like no other, having won his Senate seat against his party’s “preferred” candidate.  Once in Washington, he stuck to his principles, even calling out Mitch McConnell when the majority leader engineered a vote that allowed Senate Democrats to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, the poster child for corporate welfare.  Cruz was the only candidate from either party who had the guts to go into Iowa — the corn capital — opposed to ethanal subsidies.

Cruz is an expert on the Constitution and strongly defends the original intent of the framers who believed in a limited federal government, states’ rights, individual liberty and equality for all —not special privilege for some — under the law.   Isn’t that what most American’s want?   A level playing field, the ability control your own destiny and to keep a fair portion of what you earn without having it stolen out from under you by an ever increasing federal government?   Continue reading “Ted Cruz’s Barbie Doll Problem”

Donald’s Diapers Are Showing

Donald Trump is expected to win big in his home state of New York next week.  No surprise there.  New York voters have a record of picking poor candidates and the GOP presidential primary will be no exception.

For those who have yet to vote, Trump’s recent loses in Wisconsin and Colorado should be far more instructive than his expected win in New York.   It’s not in the “thrill of victory” but in the “agony of defeat” that one’s true character shines.   Continue reading “Donald’s Diapers Are Showing”

Cruzing for a President (Why many Conservatives still have Doubts)

If you want an anti-establishment candidate who is a constitutional conservative than Ted Cruz is your guy.

If you want someone who is not beholden to the power brokers in Washington, Ted Cruz is your guy.

If you want someone who will stand by his principles and not be swayed, Ted Cruz is your guy.

If you want a candidate who has the toughest stance on illegal and legal immigration, Ted Cruz, (See Numbers USA Scorecard https://www.numbersusa.com/content/elections/races/presidential/2016-presidential-hopefuls.html) is your guy.

If you want a candidate who would cut Washington down to size and abolish five government agencies, and another 25 bureaus and commissions Cruz has listed them.

If you want a candidate who has the fairest and most pro-growth tax plan, Cruz wins again, hands down.

Then why, oh why, do so many conservative Republicans and Reagan Democrats still have reservations about this man?

Cruz was not my first choice.  I preferred someone who had never held elected office.  That said,  I’m not willing to go with one who has been, and still is, all over the map like Donald Trump.  You never know where he is going to land, except on the issue of using public domain to take private property for commercial purposes.  He’s been consistent on that one thing.

You would think if Donald Trump is a really smart man (and he continuously tells us he is) that he would have studied the major issues confronting us by now, but, no.  He’s too busy giving television interviews and jetting around the country telling us that he will make America GREAT by making really GOOD DEALS and it will be HUGE!

If you have bothered to really listen to Trump for any length of time you have to be confused or hypnotized.

Even on his signature issue of immigration, he’s been all over the map.  We’re going to build a wall but it’s going to have a really BIG door.  And we’ll send all those who have come here illegally home but we’ll let the REALLY GOOD ONES come back.  “But we’re going to take the high ground. We’re going to do what’s right. Some (illegal aliens) are going to have to go. And some, we’re just going to see what happens. It’s a very, very big subject, and a very complicated subject. . . .” http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1507/26/cnr.05.html

Yeah, right!

Nevertheless, I continually run into staunch conservatives who seem less than enthusiastic about this man.  When questioned, here are their main concerns:

  • Did he cheat on his wife?  This is perhaps the most troubling of all.  The source of this story is the  tabloid National Enquirer whose owner is a Trump supporter.  In the past, it has done hit pieces on Ben Carson and Marco Rubio.  Unlike the Carson and Rubio pieces which each had  a kernel of truth (if one is into kernels that have no real substance) the Cruz piece had none.  Zilch!  There was not one source for this alleged rumor.  In fact, the only name mentioned was Roger Stone, a political operative and former Trump advisor.  No legitimate news source would touch it.
  • Does he lie?  When Trump gets mad, he calls people names.  He dubbed Ted Cruz “Lying Ted.”  No substance, but Trump has proven that if you throw something out there often enough, it sticks, at least with some.
  • Nobody likes him.  Partly true, at least among the party establishment and present and former Senate leaders.  That is because he is the only senator I have observed in all my years watching Washington who was not afraid to call out GOP leaders who lie to their constituents and their fellow senators.  The most memorable case was last summer when Majority Leader Mitch McConnell allowed the Democrats to add an amendment to the highway bill that reauthorized the EX-IM Bank, the poster child for corporate welfare, which was something he promised his colleagues he would never do.  http://www.wnd.com/2015/07/cruz-vs-mcconnell-who-is-lying/

Mike Lee was the first senator to risk leadership’s wrath to endorse him.  It should be noted that the Senate is anything but democratic and the party leader wields a big stick.  It’s a different story in the lower chamber where some 30 of the most conservative House members proudly endorsed Cruz’s candidacy.  He is their hero and he should be yours.

Let’s be clear, some of his senate colleagues don’t like him because he has shown them up.   In this case respect is more important than friendship.

Immigration Question Fox News Won’t Ask (Every Voter Needs to Know)

Immigration is one of the most important issues, if not the most important issue, in the 2016 presidential election.   However, most debates, including the Thursday debate on Fox News, will leave voters largely in the dark on just how the candidates will handle the matter.  There likely will be questions on securing the border and what to do with the 11-20 million people who are in this country illegally, but here are the all-important questions that likely will go unanswered:

Time for Carson and Kasich to Leave the Race

It’s time for Dr. Ben Carson and Gov. John Kasich to leave the race for president of the United States.   The high-speed train for the 2016 GOP nomination has left the station and these two aren’t on it.

In the case of Carson, it pains me to say it.  I was among the thousands of people who urged him to run.  In fact, I still have a Carson bumper sticker on my car that has yellowed with age. My husband and I have donated more to his campaign than we have to any other candidate.

Carson maintains that he is staying in the race because his supporters don’t want him to drop out.  Well, take my name off the list.  It’s not because I don’t believe that he would make the best president, perhaps the best we’ve ever had.  His goals for this nation are deeply held and well thought out, not like the current frontrunner who seems to be making them up as he goes along, and, yes, feels free to change his mind on any given issue on a moment’s notice.  Continue reading “Time for Carson and Kasich to Leave the Race”

Marco Rubio was Right

Marco Rubio was exactly right when he said Barack Obama knows “exactly what he’s doing.”  He may have repeated himself three times too many in the New Hampshire debate, but the point Rubio made to counter his GOP opponents’ attack on his inexperience was spot on.

This should in no way be taken as an endorsement for the junior senator from Florida.  I believe that there is a good chance Rubio will be the eventual nominee.  However, he lost me when he dismissed the anchor baby problem by sweeping it under the ambiguous 14th Amendment.

Nevertheless, Rubio is right about Barack Obama.  He is without a doubt the most transformational president since Ronald Reagan.    Continue reading “Marco Rubio was Right”
